We used to have Robin String Trimmers growing up. I remember them being strong and reliable. I still see Subaru/Robin 4-stroke motors, but no more 2-stroke handhelds. What happened to them?
No, they're entirely different companies...Wisconsin/Continental is an American engine manufacturer, Robin-Subaru is Japanese. I believe they co-branded some engines for a while but they're different companies. Is Robin/Subaru what became of Wisconsin engines?
the one (8 pounder or little over) was hard to start when it was new but might of been more me,, when switched everything over to syth. and it got broken in it's since been fine. my favorite out of them is the 2450 (2 stroke), not sure if the other two are still around but hear this one is still made. good trimmer. Those are some good looking trimmers. How do you like them? Any problems?
gotta ask how the responce is on it, mine hasn't been responding, been taking a quick second after i give it throttle. think i'm gonna do a little work on it, it's 4yrs old, put it through some heavy use but just wondering. now the robin 2450, one sweet trimmer.Got a string trimmer just two years ago. NB 2050 which has been just awesome ! Only thing I've been doing is keeping it clean and greasing the head twice a season. Oh and another thing my dealer told me was to run it at or near full throttle while cutting and I won't have the oil buildup around the back.
He was right on the $$ ! Performs perfectly every time. I've got the Dolmar 250.4 handheld blower and the same was true as for running it at full throttle. I fouled one plug, but ever since it's been great. Also 2 years old.

All 4 cycle with separate oil do leak oil into the combussion chamber or other ports if rest up side down. This should be no supprise. You know how to hang them, they are good trimmers. I don't believe they dump oil when running.A couple local dealers told me that in order for them to get 2-stroke Robin weedeaters they had to purchase two 4-stroke Robins for every 2- stroke they ordered. They say the 4-strokes are junk, and they dump oil when turned upside down. I purchased the last few NB2450s I could find.
I just purchased a NB2450 today cuz my Shindaiwa T25 carb took a dump and can no longer purchase a replacement carb. The Nb 2450 is a great trimmer, starts on the first pull and is exceptionally smooth running. The dealer also said the 4 cycle's were junk in his opinion and would not sell them. Robin's are great trimmers,it's just a shame they're not allowed to ship certain other models across the pond.A couple local dealers told me that in order for them to get 2-stroke Robin weedeaters they had to purchase two 4-stroke Robins for every 2- stroke they ordered.
