I'm in the market for a 36" walk behind. I went to the dealer today and priced them, tell me what you think on these prices.

36" turf tracer HP $5,279.00
36" viking $4,749.00
36" metro with ECS controls $2,999.00

Another question, would the turf tracer with the floating deck be much better than the viking with the fixed on a 36". Only advantage I see is ease of deck adjustment. Also, for the price could I get by with the metro on small tight yards. I've never used a walk behind, just a ZTR and a 21".

I'm not in the market but he also had a next lazor z 60" with the 29 Kawasaki for $9.400.00

Do yourself a favor and check into another brand of mowers! Exmark is so out of the ball park with their prices, they want almost $9K for a TT 23hp/60"!!! That is for a WB??? I have no idea what they are thinking? And they want over $5K for a 36" WB? WTF is wrong with those idiots? They said they had to raise the prices due to materials cost going up back 2 years ago when fuel was really high, someone needs to tell them materials are back down to lower levels again. And for some reason exmark was the only company to raise their prices that much, so what about the other companies, they buy the same materials too, and they didnt sky rocket their prices? Maybe they are wanting to go bankrupt?

Guy, what are you talking about? 2 years ago when everyone was going up on prices, Exmark didn't....then they had to have a price increase that was substantial enough that everyone had a fit. Maybe in hind site, they should have just raised them to begin with when everyone else was!!! Scag's gear drive 36 was almost $500 bucks more then Exmarks!!!

Exmark said when and if costs went down, they would adjust their prices.......guess what, some of their prices did go down. Their 36" walk behinds were $3599 last season, now they are $3299 and they put the 16hp new Kawi on them, last year, they were a 15. Scag is still getting $3599 for a 36!!!The other vendors I sell......haha, their prices didn't including Gravely and Husqvarna.

Do you even know what a Turf Tracer is? If you did, you would know that it isn't JUST A WALKBEHIND...... Those would be a METRO and VIKING. The TURF TRACERS are a much bigger machine, basically a walk behind Z. The decks alone on these machines are as much as their 36" Metro Gear drive! Most manufacturers don't even make a machine like this. They do a gear drive, and a hydro, which is basically the same as the gear drive with hydros instead......

Slawn, the prices you are posting are 2-3 hundred dollars cheaper then advertised SALE price.....meaning they are GREAT prices.

I'm going by the dealer tomorrow. Its to the point I really need a 36". I already have a Exmark Z and I would prefer to stay with the same brand. I have good dealer support with the Exmark. Most likely I will get the viking.

Your better off looking for a NEW last year model Toro 40" Hydro

Dealers are selling them online for around $3300 if you can find one. The deck is built better than the eXmark, look at the reinforcement on the front of the Toro deck.

Uh, Yeah, I own a turf tracer, a turf tracer HP, a metro and a ferris DD 61"/23hp. Yeah, I know the TT is basically a WB Z and not many make a WB that big, but Ferris does, and that one brand new was only $5500. yet, the comparable turf tracer 60"/23hp was near $9K?? What makes it worth that amount versus the Ferris of the same size? I think the ferris actually has a better cut too. That TT was definitely my last exmark purchase, if I wanted to spend almost $9K, I could go buy a ZTR over a WB!!! Many people were shocked when they saw that price on the TT around here and switched brands. NO WB is worth that much! And really these dealers need to remember the whole lawn care industry pricing is going down because of everyone willing to mow yards for $10.!! If the people mowing lawns are forced to take pay cuts and deal with low ballers ruining our industry, then we cant afford what we used to anymore, that means they have to bite the bullet with us, but so far they arent? The exmark prices around here didnt go down at all, maybe they did where you live, but it is business as usual here in KY????

Exmark is one of the best mower manufacturers out there. The market is competitive, and they build solid, reliable, high quality machines that clearly, judging by their prices, people like to buy! The exmark deck is just as solid as the toros, the "reinforcement" you see is just a different baffling system in the toro, and if you look at an exmark it has the welded bar around the deck skirt. I can jump on my fairly old exmark metro deck, and it doesnt even flex.

If you have the cash, go with an exmark. If you need to adjust cut height, go with the TT, if you dont, but do need or want hydros then the viking is great! The metro is also one of my favorite machines, was my first mower, and is very good all around if you let yourself learn to use it.

Well, I just got home from dealer. I ended up with a 36" viking for $4,559.00 plus tax. I pick it up Monday, I'll let you guys know how I like it. Another question, I plan on getting a stand on at some point. Dealer suggested the jungle jim, any opions on the jungle jim would be appreciated.

I used the viking on 6 yards today. So far I love it. That thing has some power. I will admit the ECS controls take some getting used too. I will be putting a chute blocker on though. That thing will shoot clipping 20' across the yard. I haven't gotten a stand on yet. I figure I need to get used to it before I get the stand on. Any opinion's on the Jungle Jim would be appreciated.

That is true about exmarks throwing clippings that far!! Its the only brand Ive used that has that much force coming out of the chute! I think this has to do with the front deck baffle. My ferris DD doesnt throw the clippings anywhere near the same distance as the exmarks.

I had a set of Jungle Wheels and after two months of use, I decided to sell them. I spent about a month researching old threads on here and decided on a Velke Pro-1 (one wheel sulky). After about three weeks worth of use, I'm sold. There's a reason that Velke invented the ride on sulky. The ability to reverse my walkbehind with no possibility of jack-knifing is worth the price of admission alone. Plus, since the one wheel platform is more compact, maneuverability around objects (i.e. Flower beds, trees, etc.) is greatly increased. My Jungle Wheels would sometimes ride up into a flower bed I I wasn't careful turning.

man go for the velke x2. i have 2 sets of them and have never given me any problems. one wheel, two wheel, its all personal pref. i love the x2's. plenty of standing room and easy to manuever. they are also easy to take on and off. i use a carabiner clip for mine and hang them from the handlebar deck. I just bought a 48" metro w/ecs and i love the ecs controls. WAY better than pistols and they are easy to use

if you will want to change the height of cut a lot get a turf tracer if not get the metro. I love my turf tracer 36 with ecs controls. Do not get pistol grip controls. That is a good price my dealer has the same turf tracer for a little more money so that seems to be a good price.

I sold my 36" Exmark Metro last year because I didn't use it that much. Go figure the first three accounts I picked up this year had fenced back yards with small gates. I found a used 36" Scag Advantage on craigslist. A 2007 model with 42 hrs. The seller (original owner) paid over $3600 tax included. I bought it for $1600. This mower was basically new. The week after I purchased there was another scag on craigslist just like one I bought for $1800. Good used mowers are out there if you look.

how are you not jackknifing? The single wheel velke I use is a jackknifing fiendwhen it comes to reverse! same with the x2 I have unless I do everything absolutely perfectly
I meant that I don't have to worry about keeping the Velke perfectly straight when backing up (as you do say when you're backing up a trailer). If I didn't go perfectly straight in reverse, the Jungle Wheels would jackknife and get stuck in what ever way they turned. With the Velke, I simply step off at the end of a pass and swing the mower around in a zero turn. Since the Velke acts like a caster wheel, it spins in the turn, and then I step back on and go.

ProSlide will beat a Velke, leave an awesome stripe, no flats, nothing to hang up, BUT ya can't back up. No problem...just step off for a second or two. If you plan ahead, you really don't have to back up that much.....
