Just put on a set of the new Oregon G6 blades on my Bobcat 48" WB (no mulch kit & side discharge).

Pro's: 1. Significantly better suction (lift) over the standard hi-lifts. 2. Much smaller clippings (as to be expected with Gator-type blades).

Con's: 1. Airfoil (teeth) are so tall, that I have to put the blades in the lowest position (i.e. 2 spacers between the blade & spindle). 2. Increased blowout all across the front of the deck (most likely due to the increased lift). It's more than I've had with regular Gator blades.

I'm hesitant to lower the deck any further than it is (due to my insanely bumpy lawn). Thinking about installing a hard rubber "skirt" along the front edge (old mud flap).

Anyone's thoughts...on my blowout problem...or just the G6's in general?

I recently started using the Oregon Gator blades on my Bob-Cat and a month before I did that I removed the front baffle that encircles all 3 of the blades on my mower's deck. The blowout was increased from removing the front baffle kit and now that I've started using the hi-lift Gator blades the blowout may be a little more than it was previously. You may try adding a skirt across the front and I'd be interested to know if it helped reduce the blowout. I don't consider the blowout excessive but, it was noticeable after I removed the front baffle on mine. I may put the baffle back when it gets hotter and the grass growth slows down. I do know that the removal of the baffle makes it easier on the deck when trying to process a lot of thick and moist grass.

I can't really complain about the G6 blades - they perform as advertised...good lift, smaller clippings, and I'll assume a decent wear period.

It's the resulting blowout that's annoying. I wish I could raise them up higher under the deck...I think that would improve things. But (as I mentioned) the longer (higher) airfoil teeth will hit the inside - especially right at the discharge.

To compound this - I'd really like to start raising my cut height as the weather gets warmer. And the only way now is to raise the deck - which will probably increase the blowout problem. Grrr...

Haven't had a chance yet to try the "skirt" idea - just too many things to do. And I haven't quite gotten up the courage to be drilling holes in the deck. Oh well...
