For those of you who have used both, which do like better? I have used .095 round, and .105 square, and the square cuts cleaner and doesn't grab the turf quite as bad as round, but I have heard about this twisted line, like the Desert Vortex and Redmax twisted line. Have any of you used this line? I have read that it lasts longer, doesn't grab the turf, and also reduces stress on the engine allowing you to run longer line with more RPM's. I was just curious. Thanks.

I use .095 Square line from lesco (cheap junk) but it works fine most of the time (except chainlink) and is cheap, but what won my heart on it is that its dark green and I don't feel I need to pick up left overs. My favorite line is the Stihl .095 X-line worth the money but is neon green and shows up in grass to well.

I love the Desert Vortex. It lasts longer then any round I have used. I have 4 cemeteries and it works great around the headstones. I put some round in one trimmer the other day just to see how much difference between it and the vortex. I took the round back out and put the vortex back in. Its all I will use until I find something better.

I guess this is different strokes for different folks because I love the twisted line. I have heard people talk about the square line and X line like echo so I bought a a small spool of square line a small spool of Echo X-Fire and a small spool of V-shaped line. I think they all stink!
I needed some new mower blades and edger blades, so while I was placing a order with Mowpart.com I went ahead and ordered me another 3lb [or 5lb cannot remember] spool of Gator Magnum Supertwist.
To me the twisted line flies straighter, has less drag and cuts just as good or better IMO

Omg I spend hours somedays untangling my line when it gets twisted and you want to buy that stuff,
heck next time the stuff gets seriously botched I'll send you the whole spool of it all twisted and knotted up
and you just send me the regular one back, k?

Stihl X Line is the best line for our situation, over the years we've tried alot of different lines and X line simply has outperformed any other line we have tried. We trim against chain link and cinder blocks most of the time and it is tough as hell, nothing else we have used comes close. We do not like gator line for our situation, the red Stihl round commercial line isn't bad. I'll just pay the extra for the X line.

that grass gator from home depot is some of the best line i have ever used. cuts clean and last atleast twice as long as shindaiwa silent twist. i cant seem to find it anymore so i switched to the gatorline, love it but for the price the grass gator is awesome!

Husky titanium is what I have right now (.095 round), and I don't like it at all. I'm really thinking about trying the twisted line to see how it does. I found the desert vortex on alamia.com for only $21.00 for a 3lb. spool.

I have used the Desert Extrusion Vortex line now for 6 or 7yrs and love it. Yes, it sometimes welds and tangles, but what line don't once in a while. I have tried lots of line and, of course, like this the best. I have found it does run quieter and gives more power back to your trimmer. Also good against fences and concrete at just enough throttle to cut the grass. My suggestion, buy a small roll of it and try it. There is twisted line made under other names, but haven't tried it as is not available to me in my area with out ordering it in.
