I hear ya. Initially had shallow pugs with the LS aerator, but not now. We simply adjusted the depth setting and added the extra weights they sent us. We are quite pleased with our Lawn Solutions aerator.

good, we are getting about a solid 3in core with the new and improved pluger 855 hydro. it is amazing compared to the 850 wehave.

the cleanest looking, easiest thing is the steel plate.
Have your welder weld a couple "d"rings to pick it up with when you dont need it and your so good.

simple, cheap and a whole lot cheaper than OSHA fines for having someone sit on the aerator:rolleyes:

Just sold the whole rig
stand on and aerator

I would have put a steel box or something on it but the actuator (that lifts it up and down.....)

Might have broke after a few uses
From the extra weight the aerator already weighed a TON! (not literally) But that thing was huge 60inches of pure WEIGHT yet it still didnt aerate well in dry soil

This aerator was homemade but with some added weight pulled great plugs. I added the wood platform & 6" x 1/4" bolts to hold the steel plates on. The plates are 24" x 24" & weigh 33lbs a piece. I have since replaced that aerator with a 48" Turf Aire that fits the 3PH on the tractor but will still use the plates for additional weight. I would think any welding shop would have access to similar plates.

Good deal on your Pluger, but I don't see them being used around here. Not sure if they're good or bad -- just trust what guys are using around here, and our local Pluger dealer (Johnston, IA) said they can "beat you up pretty bad", but that's their opinion.

We're sold on the "hydostatic" contols regarding aerators. The only "hydro" aerators we've seen around here is ours, and local buds who demoed one of our LS aerators and ended up buying them too.

IMO, Lawn Solutions has the best hydrostatic on the market. Easy to use, and they pull GREAT plugs.

The Plugr 855 we just bought is much smoother than the old ones and IS hydrostatic drive. I was impressed with the new video of the dual hydro LS on another thread, but it didn't show any cores. They'll be at GIE, so I'll catch a closer look there.

the plugers are way better than any regular aerator, so any beating up you may get is still 10 times easier than lifting up and down all day for crappy over spaced cores!!!

the new one is way smoother though, very smooth indeed. kind of makes you wonder if it is actually plugging, but then you look and it is flinging cores out like chopped lettuce in the hands of a great chef.

we just got ours back though if you did not know, a splined pulley on the hyrdo stripped out for some reason, i think it was not tightned all the way and worked loose, but whatever.

we took back the loaner that i may add was awesome deal between our dealer and source one. we believe they are def a company to work with customers as they did us in time of need and backing or thier product. those are the companies who make a list to buy from.
