I have to agree with Flex-Deck.

If it was cheaper to stamp a 7 guage deck, no one would be welding them.

If it was cheaper to stamp a 7 guage deck, all of JD's deck would be stamped.

If it were cheaper to stamp a deck, MTD wouldn't have made near the aquistions it has over the years. Many a small company has gotten too deep in debt with them for MTD's stamped parts.

Actually, that how Toro has made their 72" decks for years. I've owned several and they're great.

I thought the 7 iron decks were hydroformed like they now make frame rails for SUVs and trucks.
It's supposed to not stress the metal as much.
I know that 7 iron deck is really deep for a "stamped" deck.

Ok, IÂ’m a homeowner and do not mow for a living. I do however mow about 6 acres weekly (2 of which are pasture) and have used Toro products (Tractor 42 inch and a Z-Master 52 inch) since 1994 and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever with the decks. I will say that the Exmark support is way better as they help me with the carburetor air canister combination problem on my early 2002 Z-Master, where Toro just floundered.

I have a 2001 62" Toro Z Master and have had no problems with it whatsoever. After looking around at all types of ZTRs I narrowed my choice of mowers down to either a 60" Exmark Lazer Z or a 62" Toro Z Master. After demoing both, I chose the Toro primarily because of the SFS deck. Although Exmark makes an excellent product I have never regretted purchasing the Z Master. The SFS deck has performed flawlessly for me. As far as conventional decks go, sometimes it pays off to think outside of the box. At least I believe it did with the SFS deck.

INFERIOR DECK? You dont sound much like an engineer or "designer" to me. Have you even seen a 7-IRON deck? Or even used one? Dont judge a book by its cover. The 7-IRON will be on this planet long after your welded decks are falling apart.

They all suck- why even have a deck? Just mount the spindles and blades off the frame and go. Seriously whether it is stamped or welded you should not have a problem with any commercial deck. Some cut better in certain grasses and such. All the cutting takes place inside baffles that are all welded into the decks. Ive owned both, never had a problem with stamped, had welds break on fabricated, but just welded them. There is less chance of poor manufacturing with a stamped deck. Never owned a deere, but I demoed one and it is a really nice deck, left a nice cut, Toro leaves a great cut, guess what Scag leaves a great cut, buy what works best in your grass and don't worry about what kind it is. Deck fabrication is about the last thing I look at when buying a mower, theres alot of other parts that make up a mower that I think companies differ on than how the decks are made.
