So bobcat is telling me to only run "Bobcat Brand" hydraulic fluid through my 07 335 mini ex, is there any reason i cant just run standard 10w-30 like on my skid steer? Is this just a sales pitch or is there a legitimate reason for using there fluid other than making more money:usflag:

Bobcat uses zinc additives in their oils, much like sulphur and diesel fuel.
My dealership has already repaired drive motors on their attachments due to non-Bobcat skid steers oil contaminating the oils inside the attachments, don't take the risk!!

I think Ron's saying only use Bobcat brand oil in Bobcat brand skid steers.
this is bogus
bobcat do not have an oil blending facility and no mainstream oil comapny will run the short runs bobcat would require. Mack, cummins, cat, volvo, and on and on all have their own oils for 1 reason PROFIT. How do in know? I used to work for an large, very large oil co and used to run their empty drums straight down the line after our mainsream blends.
There is a lot of smoke and mirrors around it all but it is all to do with the oil companies trapping oem sales and initial fill in the factory.

I have a thicker oil (10w 30) in my 130 than Bobcat has, even with my Cat, that oil was the same type, just a different color, and I still got hell for using Bobcat attachments.

I'm thinking it's straight for profit also but they may have there reason behind it possibly, I should take a sample "bobcat brand" and a sample of standard 10w-30 and send it out just to see what the difference is or maybe it is just smoke and mirrors

The hydraulic components in my Bobcats are sauer/sundstrand/danfoss and the manufacturers recommend the #68 hydraulic oil. I have used that stuff for years and never had a problem. One thing though, the orangish Bobcat oil seems to react with other oils and form a strange, cloudy mix. I flush and drain the system before adding new oil. This is easy because every machine I have owned was someone's basket case.

Bobcat recommends a SAE 10W (W for winter) or a SAE 30 non-detergent oil. These are both single grade oils.
10w-30 is a multi-grade "all season" oil. Almost all multi-grade oils are designed for use in combustion engines and have detergents and additives.
If you use detergent oil in a hydraulic system you can have foaming that will cause cavitation in the pumps, this will damage the pumps. Detergent oil can also pick up and circulate contaminates/moisture in the system.
I don't know what additives are in the Bobcat brand oil I would assume something for anti-foaming and moisture control?
All my machines have used the Bobcat brand hydraulic oil with zero hydraulic problems.

That's funny, my last Bobcat mini excavator called for 10w-30 as a replacement if Bobcat brand hydraulic oil wasn't available.

what grade of 10w-30 do they recommend? My Takeuschi recommends the same however it's a diesel grade CF or CG or something like that.
