what grass height do you cut at? i cant seem to make some ppl happy when there lawn is 8 inches. i cut it down short to avoid center grass from sticking up but it leaves lots of clippings. What height is good to mow at for side discharge? My troy built 33 leaves a center line unless i cut short.

I use a rider or ZTR, but here in MI I cut at 3-3.25". It leaves a nice manicured look without making it too short causing it to burn out in the summer heat. I see a lot of LCO's near me cutting at 3.5" -4", but it always looks like it still needs to be cut afterward. HOC is very dependant on what part of the country you are in too, and the type of grass you cut.

My lawns are cut at 2.5 to 4 inches depending on the lawn. Most are cut in the 3 to 3.25 inch range. If the grass is long I will double cut them and/or bag them. I don't leave until it looks good.

I start the season around 3 1/4 to 3 1/2 inches, and gradually raised to 4 inches when the dry, hot weather started. I've gone back down to 3 1/2 on most properties now. This is the first year I've gone to a full 4 inch cut on a regular basis. It saved several lawns for an extended period with the dry conditions. I mowed semi-regularly several weeks when a lot of the guys around here who cut lower were sitting at the house because their lawns were toast.

Regular lawns are all 3.25. So.e that look better at 3.5 are at 3.5. In the spring the baseball and softball fields are at 2.75. In he to the soccer field is at 2.5.

I usually cut at 3". When it gets dry out, I'll raise the height to 3.25" or 3.5". Some customers like a shorter cut and will be cut at 2.5"...but that is only if they request it to be cut that short.

As the season comes to an end, I do start to cut the lawn a little shorter. So if the typical cutting height during the normal season is 3", I will gradually get the lawn down to 2.5" by the last cutting of the season.

2" is good here....i've read about cutting it higher during dry times but it doesn't even make a difference.....at least not here....there's other lawn care people that cut at like 3"....looks like it hasn't been cut in a few days....their's turns brown just the same as cutting it at 2"....dry is dry....when it's dry the grass turns brown regardless....and shorter looks better green or brown lol.

I like 3.5". I have the Cubby 33" and you have to double cut for sure on an 8" lawn. Thing aint a scag. I double cut my plush more healthy accounts that get treatments. The B&S 10.5 engine is just that. (if thats what you got).

Carman, what are your customers asking the lawns to be cut at and what are you cutting them at? Big deal to bend the cutomers request.

We used to have one guy (really good paying) and he wanting it at 2.5. It didn't matter if it was scalped or dirt flew. Customer is ultimately right. I cut everyone at 3" except one business later in the year (2.5 at that time). My commercial fields are 3.5".

I cut at 3" all year until October I drop my deck down to 2.75" or so.... just to keep the grass short for doing fall clean ups so I'm not bagging grass.

I try to cut at 3-3.25 for St Augustine and Zoysia and 2.5-3 for Bermuda. Turf experts and Horticulturists recommend these grasses be cut at around 2 inches when they are 3 inches high but I have found that to be nonsense in my area due to the dry spells we always get here in Texas. I cut my own Zenith Zoysia lawn a 2 inches. I have an area that is common bermuda and I cut it at 1.5 inches. I fertilize regularly and irrigate irregularly deeply to keep it looking its best.

yeah we cut our own yard at 1.5 inches down here in the south....but the yard is pretty level.....i cut my customers at 2" though.....doesn't really look any different than 1.5"...you wouldn't notice it just by looking at it....but when you cut at like 2.5" or 3" you notice a big difference in the way it looks.

3.25" seems like the sweet spot for most of my yards.

Down here in Central America I have been forced to cut at 2" minimum usually 1.5" or you loose customers. Grass grows fast and people walk in their yards (no sidewalks). They cant afford weekly cuts only bi weekly and by then the grass is 10"-16" high.

What is your dominant grass there? S.A?
