Apply 2-4-D before or after mowing?

I want to apply 2-4-D, but grass is getting tall. Does it matter if I mow first and then apply the 2-4-D, or should I apply it first and then hold off on mowing for a couple of days? If I mow, how long do I have to wait before applying it? We have a nice long window of 3 or 4 days with no rain forecast, so it looks like a good time to apply it.

Budman....you typically want to wait 2 days before or 2 after mowing before you apply any herbicide. :drinkup:

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will mow tonight, then apply the herb on Monday.

The two days before makes sense, but why the 2 days after?

Herbicides usually will stress freshly cut grass and even liquid fertilizers too. Most lawn care companies don't typically concern themselves with this when it conflicts with scheduling quite drastically. Especially when some may be mowing every 3 days!!
