i have a 36" gravely 988151 mower and was thinking about a mulching kit. Looks like it takes the 79260500 kit. Does anyone know what this kit consits of? its only around $80 so i was wondering if it included baffles, blades, block off etc. I also bag so would a mulch kit help at all? i would love to be able to mulch and not bag.

For 80 bucks I'd have to guess blades and a block off plate. (Which is all you need) I have the same setup on my 48 prostance and it chops up hedge clippings unnoticeable even in the most prestigious yards.

I was wondering the same thing as you but I went ahead and bought it. It only comes with a block off plate but its not just for the discharge. Its about 2 feet long and attaches to the bottom of the deck with 2 bolts and 1 bolt by the discharge. It doesn't come with blades or anything else. I was kind of disappointed because I wanted a block off plate that could be taken off easily so I can switch to bagging easier. Its not that hard I guess haha you just have to drive the mower up on the trailer ramp and take off the bolts

So does it mulch good with the regular blades or did you also buy new blades

I just use hi lifts. If you can get solid hi lifts or mediums you will be fine. Stay away from gators unless you dis-charge. Try to stay away from any blades where grass clumps can get hung up on the top side like aftermarket ones with the notch.
stay away from these type or gators http://www.expressmowerparts.com/16_1_2_Medium_Lift_Blade_p/50-1900.htm see that notch they make to bend the blade it catches grass when you mulch and the quality is clumpy.
http://www.expressmowerparts.com/16_1_2_Wavy_Mulcher_Blade_p/28-661.htm see how theses are flat that is what you want. I never have tried the wavy kind though this is the first set I seen on this website that didn't have a notch.
