Just got me a grandstand and was wondering if any of yall put a mulch kit on urs? the guys at the dealer said alot of ppl were just putting a block off plate at the discharge end and runnin gator blades, instade of spending the $250 to 300 for the toro kit. Has anybody done this yet? i hated gator blades on my walk behinds. and hows everybodys cut quality? thanks BEN

im looking to block off mine too.
what are some of you guys using to block it off?
dealer told me to try a piece of an old tire.

I have a 2008 48" ZMaster with the TFD and just had my mulch kit installed today so I can give you some feedback after use.

I ran the block off plate with Gators last winter/spring and I am not happy with it. It is not really intended for spring/summer use. If you want to buy it for the winter, it will work fine, but is pretty much a waste to buy it for that.

In the spring when we started to get some growth it would drop clippings right near the discharge and made a mess in my opinion. Spend the $$ and buy the actual kit with baffles. I also just installed one on my Wright Stander and so far it works pretty good. We still have decent growth here in Florida and it cut mostly everything clean in 1 pass.....

I have two Toro 48 t-2 walkbehinds and have mulch kits on them. They work great. Just installing a mulch plate works ok during leaf season but not very good when mowing grass.
Two 44" toro hydro wb's......the mulch kits work really well on those, except when there is surge growth..:)

Four bolts to put on/take off.....piece of cake.

I'm in Central Florida and have run dedicated mulch kits for the last 18 years or so. Mowing St Augustine and Bahia grass you can't tell the difference between the mulch kit and bagged. If Bahia is not mowed weekly in July August you will have to dbl cut though.

I have the discharge plate for my Granstand and the Toro atomic blades. This combo works great in the fall for destroying leaves, but for grass cutting the clippings still want to discharge so you will end up with everthing on the discharge side of the deck. If you wish to mulch you would want to get the mulch kit.

I have a Mitch kit for a 52" grand stand for sale if you are interested. I didn't likeep it on mine. We end up mowing a lot of tall stuff and we would have to slow down or leave stringers and bog it down. Worked great during summer months though....
Let me know if you are interested.
