What company has the biggest zero turn? Heaviest, longest ect. I did sit on a Ferris 5100 z (72")(2200lbs) and this machine was huge. It made a hustler super Z look like a little toy. I have noticed some wide dixie choppers .Will a bigger machine handles bumps and slopes better? Since having a wider wheel base?

Williams,

I did a Field Test on a Ferris 5000 a few years back. Here's a pic of it next to my Super Z, I thought my trailer would break when I loaded it. Going up the ramp the back of the trailer almost touched the ground! It had a 60 or 61 in rear discharge deck on it. It was a big mother!

IMO the 35 hp Cat on Ferris 5100 with only a 61" deck is waaay overkill (at least in most cases). I just don't see it....but, "to each his own". :)

I can attest to the fact that it doesn't bog down. While testing it I felt like I could drive into the woods and mow down trees. Trees no, but saplings wouldn't stand a chance.:laugh::laugh:
Maybe you've seen it, but there's a video on YT of a guy one a Deere 777 IIRC, mowing down bamboo for crying out loud, and it's actually doing pretty well considering the size of the trees he's mowing down.:hammerhead:

That 5100 oughta do really well LOL

What size tires did the Ferris have?, that mower with a 61 inch deck makes no sence. You would need those big tires to keep it from getting stuck.

Those tires should be on all 60 inch plus Z's.

I always wondered what percentage of the time that was actually necessary? I mean, if you really needed that much hp shouldn't you be using a bush hog?
What's your take on that?
Thanks, Stan
Yeah... in the spring we used both motors a lot just because when you're cutting that much grass (74" across) the mower would start to cut weird especially if it was long and wet.. But in the summer when everything is burnt (the point where you know you're just going through the motions) we used one motor. It was a fast machine speed wise! (20MPH NEW) The dual motors were just to compensate for the high speed that it has.
I bought it just because we were using it to cut school baseball diamonds and community parks (Mostly wide open).

Honestly there were days where we got there at 5 and just FLEW though the schools yard with 3 of these machines. Cutting at 17MPH! Cutting at every 4" They dont care about what it looks like. Follow the patterns til you're done.
