Tossing good money after bad money especially this small amount is not a good business decision, its a distraction cuts into production, saps mental energy, the cost he incured during this learning experience is written off as a business expence. He would loose anyway.

Dealer is giving me problems. Here's an update:

Took it in, explained the situation. I was patient and polite. The dealer got defensive when I told them I didn't feel like it was fair for me to pay for to replace the belt and pulleys when I just did it 20 hours ago and the problem is because they sold me the wrong belt.

So the mower is sitting in their shop. They are supposed to be looking at it/talking to Husqvarna, whatever. She mentioned today that someone from Husqvarna told her that the difference in size in the belt they sold me (a 5V belt) and the belt I should have had (B belt) would NEVER cause that much damage to pulleys. That something else has to be causing it. I'm not calling them liers, but it's hard to believe that it could be anything else when the spindles are perfect, and all6 deck pulleys AND the clutch has been replaced 6 weeks ago. There's nothing else to cause the belts to continue failing.

They also checked part numbers and they have been selling me the correct belt per their Husqvarna parts website.

I did a bit of research and found out that the belt they have been selling me is used on 2012 and newer mowers and the belt I SHOULD be using (522829601) is used on 2011 and older. Mine is a 2010. So I checked the clutch pulley, all 3 idler, and all 3 blade pulleys - cross referenced between the older model with the older (mine) belt, and the 2012 and newer models.

Weird thing is that the pulleys are all the same part numbers, there's NO change in pulleys from Husqvarna going from 2011 to 2012 but they DO change from the belt I originally had to this new one (575658406).

How could they change belt types without changing pulleys? Seems like either this belt they sold me SHOULD be working, or Husqvarna made a really stupid mistake. I'm trying to figure out how to proceed with my dealer, and the more I know, the more I can get accomplished.

The belt they sold you is narrower than what your model and serial number calls for by Husqvarna, This belt rides deeper in the pulleys which causes the inside of the V to run in the bottom of the pulleys. This also causes belt slippage and over heating thus slinging apart.
Also to add too much belt deflection when running, There could have been any number of changes to the newer machines for this NARROW belt to work properly, Moving the engine back to take up slack in the belt or the deck mounting points moved forward or maybe even a stiffer tension idler arm spring or idler arm relocation. Any of these would reduce belt deflection and slippage for this WRONG belt to run on newer machines.

I wish you would have posted pics of the pulleys when I asked, I just don't see one wearing in 20 hrs.....

They called and are saying that the dealer who replaced the pulleys didn't install the deck belt guide correctly and that it was facing backwards, causing the belt to jump. I would buy it except for the fact that the belt broke MANY times before I had the other dealer replace the pulleys.

On the pulleys, It's my guess the wear you see is where the belt wore the powder coating off thus making them appear grooved. Powder coating is thicker than regular paint......

Just tell them to put the RIGHT freak'n belt on the dam thing so you can go mow !!!

Good work Rob, looks like you got him pointed in the right direction.

Let me add a little “color commentary…”

Remember guys, they left Beatrice and lost 95% of their Engineering group in the move. (and all of the “tribal knowledge” that went with it). It's gonna take the new guys some time to get up to speed.

I don't have access to this information any more but if memory serves me, seems like we changed to the 522829601 to improve belt life. Different section, different construction. Who knows why they switched to the 575658403. (my guess is cost)

That being said, the 575658403 should last a lot longer than 20 hours. If all belts failed similar to the one pictured, I'd agree with the improperly positioned belt keeper on the idler theory. Those keepers are critical. We learned that early on in development. If you impact something with the front of the deck, it pitches the rear up and idler pulley can throw/damage the belt.

Another interesting thing I noticed… It seems all of the published information refers to the 522829601 as a B section and the 575658403 as a 5V. I think that’s a case of “propagation of misinformation”. The 522829601 is a 5V. I have one here on my desk and measured it. From the pictures, it looks like the 575658403 is actually a B.

5V is narrower and taller than a B (same 40deg angle)

5V = 5/8” (.625) Wide and 35/64” (.546) Tall
B = 21/64” (.656) Wide and 13/32” (.406) Tall

I'm also in agreement with Rob. Probably only paint wear on the pulleys. Don't worry about it.

Take a look at the pic. The wrapped belt is the 522829601. It is sitting next to a B section belt. Notice how the wrapped 5V is taller than the cut B.

Too bad someone from Husqvarna Engineering wouldn’t step in, look into this, and lay out the facts. When I was with Husqvarna, I learned a ton from you guys. This is Real World stuff vs Engineering Office, “it works in CAD”, “should be” type stuff.

Good luck.
