After participating in a thread and finding out not everyone knows this trick I thought I would share.

The first set of pics is cutting in different directions at about 6-8 mph each pass and the final pics are after going over it 3 times with the deck all the way up full out

It's really not much of a secret dude. Pretty common protocol for overgrown properties. Don't go thinking you're some devici of grass cutting

Did I say I was? I just said I was responding in a thread and some guys didn't know how to do this, so I made a thread on it. I didn't know sharing knowledge was calling myself a da vinci. That's what this site is for, sharing knowledge.

why do some of you guys think an overgrown lawn has to look perfect when you are done mowing it?

i would go over it one time. it's gonna have clippings on it but who cares. that should be expected since they let it get in such bad shape to begin with.

when you mow it the 2nd time it will get rid of the extra clippings and get into better shape at that point.

Well he was having pictures taken that day for putting it up on the market and didn't want to pay my price for bagging which would of been twice what I charged for this. So this was a price and quality that worked for him. I do agree with you though.

There's still a ton of clumps and loose grass everywhere, that all needs to be cleaned up too.
Like I said he wasn't going to pay for the actually clean up. I would of ended up with a truck load of grass and I would of charged $500-$600 for that mess if I had to hual it away and it actually looked better in person. I should of took a pic from farther away. It was about curb apeal. Going from 3-4ft high grass to a little on top isn't bad haha. Actually if you read what I did I didn't clean up a thing.

The madon voyage for my kubota in the pic was on a lawn like that. They were shocked as much as me how easy it handled it. What's you weapon of choice?

JC I have the same mower and same conditions on a few lots. Did a two acre lot (goat pen) just like that on the farm next door the other day. Just went over it twice same direction and called it done:weightlifter:. Was a goat pen after all and she just wanted it" knocked down". The five goats just can't eat that much. Do you have a problem with your deck drifting down from the highest setting (without it resting on the height setting)? Kubota said this was common after a couple years?????

Regards, Kevin:usflag::drinkup:

I agree if the customer lets it get overgrown they can choose either A) single cut and you get what you get for the lower price, or B) cut to make it look good and charge at least 50% more if not double to account for all the work.

So what you mean is do I have an issue with my deck drifting down when I have it set to 5 inches? I don't do it enough on 5 to know. I always run from 3-4. I don't think so. Its a zd326s 2010 model that I bought in 2011 new. If I do a twice over I just go down and come back on the same pass. It cuts it clean to the level you want.

I do these kinda lawns all the time, piece of cake, i generally go over about 4x times depends on how bad it is. i have had grass or fields i should say that were 3ft tall which was as tall as me sitting on my cheetah, and use no bagger, and have no clippings or clumps of grass showing, and i don't rake anything up. i usually just go over all with the deck on 5 just like im cutting a normal lawn, but i go slow probably 3-5mph usually in a vertical pattern, then i go horizontal, with deck still up high even cut any uneven stuff, then i keep it high to break up clumps, after the 3rd mowing which is back to vertical, then the 4th time back to horizontal i'll drop it down to 4 or 4.5 depending on the lawn, and if clumps which it usually doesn't by now, but some lawns do, i'll cut it a 5th time vertical and it looks like its been getting get every week, and i usually just charge the customer whatever the cut is x however many times i go over it, which depends on what kinda results they want. its really not rocket science. other people have other methods, but that is probably one of the better ones. bagging it would probably take a lot longer because the bags would fill up very quickly.

I had one of those last week I didn't have my bagger yet "just upgraded mowers". I cut it at like 5in vertical and then went over it at 3.5 horizontal, then again diagonal at 3in yard looked pretty darn good after that. With my bagger I usually no bag at about 4-5in and then bag at 3in.
