Which Echo trimmer should I buy: PAS 225 or PAS 230?. Which trimmer (speed feed, rapid-loader, or pro-torque) should I buy? I also want to buy the shaft edger, either the curved or straight shaft. Which shaft is better. I will be using for 1 acre lawn. Any advice will be great. Thanks

I am a home owner on about 1.5 acres I have the PAS-225 with curved shaft edger and speed-feed head. Coming from a 5 year old 4 cycle Troy Bilt. The 225 has noticeably less torque and I find I have to wind it out more where the troy bilt I usually just idle through. I do ok with it power wise and cant beat the fuel usage. If you keep it trimmed at least every two weeks then you will do alright. I just put on a new generic edger blade and edging the driveway really bogs it down now.

Dealer told me to go with the curved edger cause the straight will throw dirt on you. I never tried the straight but think that I would like it better because of the sideways offset weight of the curved one. I also like to use one finger on the throttle and find that the trigger gets tiresome towards the end because of the trigger pull weight.

When warm you could start it with one finger it is so easy.

For the head on mine (srm-1510) i went to the mower shop and just got the standard head they come with stock. it's the auto feed. works awesome you just very lightly tap it on the ground and it feeds out more string. paid 26 bucks.

i love the echo. i used a stihl once i think and it was not enjoyable to use. uncomfortable.

Run the SRM-230's here on both trucks. No problems out of them and have decent power. We also use the Speed-Feed heads.

If you're only looking to use on your lawn either one will be okay for you.

Can't help you with the edgers.
Same Here... we've got 4 of the 230's w/speed feed heads. Only problem with the speed feed, they seem to wear out on us after about 3 months.

We also have a couple of the Stihl FS130R, but the guys always grab the Echos...

Looks like the Echo trimmer PAS 230 with the speed feed trimmer is the one for me based on all the comments posted. Nobody mentioned to get the pro-torque trimmer over the speed feed trimmer. I did look at Stihl trimmers but sales person and mechanics recommended Echo slightly over Stihl. Everybody's comments were helpful in making my decision. I love this site because it just gives wealth of information from your experiences. This site greatly helps you feel good about the decision you've made. Keep up the excellent advice. Thanks again to all. :)

Really? Yes, you should get a Stihl, they are an absolute pleasure to start and the coils never go bad. I might consider buying a sickle before I ever bought another Stihl.
Ill bet any amount of money that my stihls start easier, and will last longer than your echo's. my fs 90r starts in 1 pull, br600 in 2 pulls and hs 45 starts in 3-4 pulls and it has none of the easy starting systems like other stihl hedge trimmers or my br 600. Have fun with your sickle.

Yeah, just post about how bad echo is but don't provide an educated explanation with facts as to what echo unit was bad, why, how long was it owned, what was wrong, what model, how long you used it, what was the piece of equipment etc. Just get stihl cuz I HEARD my daddys, best friends neighbors girfriends son in laws friend who knows someone else I never met said echos are BAAAAAAAAAD.

Yeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaawww!!! Git....Git.......Git........R DONE!!!!!

Well I'll put it this way. I have an 8 year old SRM130 that one of my guys backed over and now it looks like a banana, but it still works great. Actually the guys like using it better because a couple of them are shorter and now they have a curved shaft trimmer!

I just said my dad had one. I used it when I mowed our grass for him. And I didn't like it. I dont remember which model it was, we owned it for a few months. I never said i "heard it was bad" i used it and I didn't like it. It was underpowered the was a pain in the butt to start the head wouldn't shoot string out right etc. and by the way im not a red neck.

My stihl fs90r got ran over by a tractor 2 years ago. Still use it and it runs great. Just bent it back straight and it was fine.

I don't care what brand trimmer you get, if you don't know what you are going to be regularly cutting, you might not have enough power for the job. The SRM230s have plenty of power for your typical lawn weeds and heavy grass (8"-12"), anything taller than that you need to move up. Now as far as brush cutters we run Stihl, we have a couple FS250, which I wouldn't dare get within 10 feet of trailer underpinning or plastic edging!

Being "underpowered" is a relative term depending on what you're using it for.
