My Lifeproof case (Iphone 4s) is waterproof. Waterproof means dust doesn't get in. That's what you want.
I've had it for a few years, and if I pop it open, the phone is completely clean and dust free inside still.

My previous Otterbox (though on a Blackberry) was not waterproof. There was always dust getting inside the case.

edit: checking amazon and a lot of bad reviews
Lifeproof's warranty policy absolutely SUCKS! The case is pretty good (and the seal on a genuine case is better than what comes with the knockoffs of their designs, so watch out), but unless you bought it DIRECTLY from them, they have no warranty. That's what most of the bad reviews are about.

They're expensive and overpriced (especially when you consider that they don't stand by their product AT ALL), but I still like the case.

My suggestion is to check for used or refurbished ones for $25 or less on eBay.
That way, if you trash the case, you won't feel bad getting another of the same.

I've had a few Otter cases, and while Otter kept sending me replacements as they fell apart, they kept falling apart. They were also not waterproof, though I do not know if that has changed (it would be model dependent anyway).

Life proof

Have not had a problem but did have some wear on the corners after 2 years. Filled out a warranty claim asking if this affected the waterproof ability. They sent another front case without a problem. I've had a few people fike claims with no problem.

My back window is coming unglued and I am going to file another claim.

They are expensive but covers your phones warranty on breaking it. So I figure it saves me $10/month on insurance.

Only problem I had with life proof compared to otterbox is that customer could not hear my voice. That was with a I phone 4. My galaxy s4 had the otter box and it doesn't get too dusty. I clean it out every so often but it rarely leaves my pocket when working.

I have the Lifeproof for 5S and am not crazy about it. Too expensive and awfully bulky. For the first day fingerprint recognition worked through the cover as intended, but not since. Too often I find that the mute button on the side has moved while in my pocket. I may go with Lifeproof for my next phone but will look hard at others first.

Did you rescan your finger like you were supposed to?
