If I post more than this I will look bully. So I'll finish here.

I can take any turf they say is susceptible to Chinch and make it resistant with, proper water and nutrients along with proper cultural practices. I don't even have a lab or scientific equipment. How can I do what they couldn't do. I still deal with the evolved Chinch bugs.

Got caught up watching football, but the Captiva grass is a diploid cultivar meaning it has two sets of chromosomes from each of the prent strains. Floratam is a polyploid and was widely regarded as resistant from its release in '73 until the mid 80s. Captiva has shown resistance to chinch bugs, except a few strains in Texas. Each generation of an insect evolves which is why the resistance is overcome. It's no different than seeing chinch bugs in zoysia grass and damaging it in different areas of the country. I use systemics and rotate my products and have only had a couple cases of chinch bugs doing some damage over the course of 15 years in the industry. I agree with you that with proper care and preventative actions that no one should have chinch bug damage, especially with a grass that was designed to be resistant. The simple fact is that they adapt and evolve. They'll build up a tolerance to insecticides if you over use them or don't apply enough to kill them.

I agree resistance builds and exist. But I also believe dead builds no resistance. Dead can not pass on resistance. I just think a mistake was made. I concede. Where there is a will there is a way. Albert Einstein once said. "A person who reads too much and uses his brain too little will fall into lazy habits of thinking."

I feel all life evolves. St. Augustine would have kept pace. Because it has been attacked and survived. Maybe it's an evolutionary version of a continued one upping another. Either way Chinch survive on chlorophyll. Not withstanding the production species. Thanks for the discussion. I made it mybisnes.
