Avoid them. Waste of time. I want my company removed from their website and cant find a way how to yet. Got one customer from it who was a total pita who seemed to think id drop what i was doing for him, and hit the local convience store before coming over

A few of my customers recommended me to Angie's List. I got a few calls from tightwads. I never paid them for anything, but got too many solicitations from Angies List. I called them and ask them to remove me from their program. No more crap calls.

The lawn care guys I know don't like them. But high end design build seems like a better fit.

I have never paid for advertising, but I have a profile and a couple reviews. I get maybe 3-4 leads a year, usually pretty decent.

I only cut grass, bushes and flower bed upkeep. Since of my customers reviewed me and then I started paying advertising. I've gotten more work and steady yards thru the WINTER than any other year. It's working great so far for me. It takesa while for the calls to start coming in after you advertise but I'm the top rated and I think they must call me first. My 2 cents

I have a bunch of good reviews there. That's good enough for me - I'm not paying them.
The reviews alone generate calls. I simply stopped answering when they call to pester me about buying advertising. They ticked me off once trying to sell me some $500 package deal and when I declined a few times, a "supervisor" then approved me to run it for $99.
The jerks would have happily taken me for $500 when they were willing to settle for $99. That was the last time I spoke to them aside from one time I answered thinking it was someone else.

"Look", I said "Is there a way for me to pay to NOT get the calls from people because I don't have any room on my schedule for more."

It's been a mixed blessing. I have a lot of good people now as a result of kind people leaving good reviews, but Angie's List itself can stick it.

I'm actually coming to the end of my first year with them. I got a few good customers from it but overall, definitely don't see it as worth doing another year in my market. Got a decent amount of good reviews from existing customers.

I have a number of good reviews and have won the super service award three years in a row. I haven't paid them a cent for advertising, and yes they will bug the crap out of you. That being said, with no paid advertising I'd say about 80% of my calls are from Angie's List.
Yeah, I "won" that award too. I thought it was a big deal until I learned that you only need 3 A ratings in a year and no bad ratings.
I declined the award the last 2 years since they started requiring a background check in order to get your award status.

It's not that I can't pass one because I can and have for other things that I voluntarily submitted to, but I felt that by jumping through their hoops and agreeing to do it, it was one step closer to feeling like I'm working for Angie's List. Screw it - I'm not playing their games.
I get plenty of calls based on the reviews. No need to pay for advertising.
