just buy a new can. get a no spill can
That's what I got, I think, got it at my scag/stihl dealer, they're Great!!! Mine just has a simple green button you push in, release and no cap to have to replace. I wouldn't have anything else
just buy a new can. get a no spill can :D

you could try setting a piece of plastic on fire and letting it drip over the hole and then it will dry and a perfect patch is made :)

Agreed Weeze!

ED have you ever tried these by far excellence for Gas cans I love them, I have tried others broke first day or just a nick from hitting corner of trailer putting a hole in it last thing I want is water seeping in my can.

You should be able to find these at any Deere or Stihl dealer

Here are more distributors who have them

Yup that's what I got, they're superb!!! I like the 2.5 gal size for my 50:1 stihl fuel. The button really does make it easier.

When you puncher a gas tank on mower and price a new one you will understand. Snapper 21" go through them in short time for example.
But you are asking about a gas can, not a tank. That was my point.

Although, I have this thing about gas leaks and hot engines. I'll spend the money on a new tank or can.

JB weld doesn't hold and neither does gorilla glue.

Best gas can on planet Earth. I literally think I'm gonna grab a few more before the EPA comes up with a reason to take em off the market or before any changes get made to em. I love how I can hold my trimmer steady with one hand and hold the can, push the button and cut off the flow of fuel in one easy step..

I don't know how anyone can work in this business and use those god forsaken $15 box store gas cans.
(not counting the old ones that actually worked)

If you're not using a steel "Eagle" type can or a No-Spill brand can you're using the "Craftsman" of gas cans.
Don't be so cheap - buy a can that works.

GREAT POINT!! Thumbs Up Be advised that for the purposes of transport, those inexpensive, (around-the-garage), plastic "homeowner" gas cans do NOT meet DOT Regulations! :nono:

Legally you can only have the No Spill SAFETY gas cans on your truck/trailer!

So if any of you guys that patch plastic cans use steel cans, do you weld up the holes in them?

What's even scarier, is that this conversation has been going on for 4 pages. A $15-20 gas can.

Hmmm... that's something I didn't know, that there was a legal issue with the older gas cans in transport. Although I have 3 of the awesome new no spill gas cans so I guess I have no worries. I also might add that I've never had any problems with my no spill cans swelling up like a balloon or decompressing in the cold. Only slightly. I use em commercially in the lawn care biz and I just keep an eye on leaving em too long in the sun. Sits on the trailer 24/7. If I notice anything I just hit the buttons on em and give em some fresh air. Cant I'magine trying to patch one, even if it had cost me $35, to me that would be like trying to patch up a condom. You just don't do it.

that's true, using the plastic cans to drive around and transport the gas is a way to get a ticket but thats a easy ticket to beat because you have to transport the gas can to a gas station to get gas and then get it home. Next EVERY new gas can spout sucks ass, I have a few regular nosels left that you just pour and dont have to mess with a locking system that causes to spill way more gas than ever. It's funny, as long as the EPA can make a penny they will continue to make harder spouts to use and cause more gas spills than ever

Wait so are you saying that "technically" any plastic gas can is "technically" a potential ticket? Maybe I understood you wrong. This is what I use, I literally threw all my other gas cans in the trash cuz even thrift shops and goodwill stores don't really want em donated

Oh I didn't read a few comments up. Yeah these are DOT3 and all that. Cool

my friend who is a state cop says any plastic gas tank that you use like every day on the truck can get you a fine. it is suppose to be metal and also like locked tight in the car or truck or you can use plastic cans if in like a steel box thing made to carry gas cans thats good to. the reason is because if you are in a accident.. Now as for patched gas cans lol, you may go to jail for that;)
