Tried out the new Maruyama BL9000 backpack this weekend. Maruyama says the blower will be available at dealers early next year. Here's a video:

Are you talking about the video in posted in this thread? If so, he has been a member since March 2012, if that means anything?

Since I don't use a blower to move large amount of leaves very far, on my leaf jobs; (because I usually just try to get them out in the open where I can chop and vac them up with my mowers), is the person in the video not using the blower in a normal manner for moving leaves like that? just wondering, I have no idea, really?

Maybe he is just moving them around to try to demonstrate the power of the blower? IDK.

How would most of you guys have tested and demonstrated this (or any) blower? Not defending or criticizing the video, just wondering?

You're probably right, he is just moving leaves around for demonstration purposes. I would think a realistic demo would be to move a large pile/line/or grouping of leaves to a gathering spot, leaving clean grass behind you. I didn't know this guy was a member. Most any blower will look impressive blowing a small layer of leaves in a random fashion, but moving the big piles cleanly and effectively is the true test of a powerful blower. I'm just blowin' and goin' I guess.

It's hard to make a good blower video that really shows the power sometimes, and I think that's all this guys is doing. However, any testing on really short grass, cement or pavement as he is doing in the video is not a good way to go as it doesn't truly show what a BP can or will do since it is a LOT easier to blow on those surfaces. My 802 and 570 will easily do anything he is doing there, but nonetheless I am very interested in trying one if I can get a chance to.

Razorblades, I need to get over there and look to see if they have it. I haven't been in the show room in over a couple months. I'd always like to demo something just for the heck of it, but I really don't need any more blowers at this time. I've got 3 backpacks and a push blower now, and not enough bodies to operate them all at once!

What do you mainly use the walk behind blower for?
Big Stuff! I use it for blowing an Apartment complex parking lot, and large properties with lots of trees that need a little extra help getting the piles of leaves moved. It's an old 8HP billy goat that I got for next to nothing about 5 years ago. I had to tune it up, rebuild carburetor, replace impeller, and replace a few bolts and screws that had rattled away. Works fine now, but I'm glad i didn't spend too much on a newer one because, I don't really use it that much.

Unfortunately we just bought another 8500 this year....I'm interested in this guy but I'll have to wait. I am interested in that 5 year warranty though!

All blower Videos are Useless. Impossible to tell volume of leaves and condition of leaves being moved. They need to be moving a solid object like a brick so you know eXact weight of object being moved.

Will do a Brick test of the 9000 vs a 580 when I Get One.

Brick or solid object tests More Objective IMO

Too many Variables in Leaf Blowing Videos.

I could. post a Video of my Old BR 400 Moving Some Serious leaves if they were Bone Dry and Wind was in my Favour.

Also too much Reliance on Operator eXperience in those Videos.

That's BS. Like I've said before, most guys here know what they are looking at, and they know of the test is fair or biased. They also know when things have been rigged (like the wind in your favor, wet or dry leaves etc). It's not rocket science man. Running two BP's on the same exact leaves or debris either at the same time or directly back to back shows plenty. The guys who always whine how they are unfair or not legit are the guys that are actually the posers that are afraid to post a video either because they don't actually own a machine they are bashing or because they are afraid that everyone will see they aren't what they actually claim to be on here.

I'd like to see that what surface(s) will you use and what controls?

The reason moving a brick is useless and proves nothing about the capabilities of a BP designed for moving grass, leaves and sticks is that it is largely dependent on whether the BP has a narrow, more tightly focused air stream like the 802/854 with the turbo nozzle attachment, and the BR600 etc vs one with a wide air stream like the 580/8500 or the 9000.
