I have a few bags of Scott's Weed and Feed leftover from some early spring application on my lawn last spring (2016). I am about to fertilize my lawn for the second time this year and I was just curious as to the use of weed and feed just for the fertilizer benefits? Is it going to fry my lawn if I use it like I would a regular fertilizer when weeds aren't actively growing? Am I better off just waiting until early next spring and using it then?

By "weed and feed" in early spring--do you mean crabgrass control?
I hope you mean a weed and feed for broadleaf weeds. Either one would be fine. Early summer is a good time to apply it, because crabgrass and the warm weather annuals are just starting out--young and tender this week. For example spurge, oxalis, purslane, black medic. Perennials are also gathering speed--clover and creeping charlie for instance.
Take care to apply it correctly--the right amount--and evenly for a no stripes look.
Most weed products have a limit--twice per year for instance. This means it would be better to use it for fall weeds--say in September, feed it also.
Some products include dicamba--which is root absorbed--its a danger when used under trees--if you use excess amounts.
