okay, i've seen this mentioned a few times lately. i trim all of my fence lines but i've been reading here some of you spray roundup along them. can someone post pictures of this please? doesn't it look like garbage?

I do, I'll take some pics and post them sometime soon. Only had one or two customers complain that I sprayed to far out when I forgot to change the nozzle on the sprayer. Other than that I think it is worth it. Cuts down on leaving the woodpecker look at the bottom of each Wood post. And you want always get to every blade of grass. Looks better than weedeating them.
Cuts way down on time also!

spray them all. spray where it's away from the fence a few inches. you can run the edge of the mower deck right along and no problems. looking at if from a distance you can't even tell anyone has sprayed along the fence line. to me it makes a cleaner look and of course saves a ton of time trimming.

trimming along a wood fence the trimmer line will make marks on the fence and trimming chain link you can never quite get every blade of grass growing through the fence and so forth. spray it and forget it for a few months then spray it again.

some houses have vinyl siding all the way down to the grass so i spray along those too. you can cut holes in the vinyl easily with trimmer line. any hard to reach areas like where the gas line comes out of the ground and it's a few inches from the side of the house i spray. you can't get the trimmer behind the pipe to trim it correctly. you end up trying to turn it sideways or whatever. i don't have time to mess with crap like that. spray it and move on. you will save tons of time on your yards if you strategically spray where you can. the key is know when and where to use it. don't go crazy or overboard with it.

If done properly it's not noticeable unless you are right on top of it. You just want to kill off 2-3" in front. Spraying a bead at low pressure with a stream nozzle will accomplish this.

We don't do it on every property but we do it on most. I'm not mowing anymore but if I remember I'll snap some pics when I'm out.

Just so you know, I don't spray anything for anyone. I let that up to the licensed professional. My point wasn't to insult the guys that HAVE a license but the ones that do it without. They know who they are.

And my name was chosen because I fly model planes and have a few that I can fly at night so I thought, "flybynite" would be a good name.

ok let me ask this. why do you guys have a license if you never spray anything?

i mean after all you can trim the weeds out of the cracks in driveways too as well as along fence lines.

what's the point? why go through all the crap, tests, pay the money, and then not use it? that is absurd if you ask me.

what do you use your license for? around here people don't get their lawns sprayed or treated so that's off the table. the few that do call the turf doctor because they have way cheaper prices than you could do it for as a solo guy. there would be no point in having a license.

go ahead. trim every fence line if you want. more power to you.

do yourself a favor. stop getting licensed. you don't need it if you don't spray. you are wasting time and money. throwing it down the drain. waste your time and money by trimming every fence line instead. at least that is productive....sortof? :dizzy:

i'm sure trimming a fence line is no big deal on the 1500 sq ft yards you guys cut but try not spraying fence lines when you have yards 1-3 acres in size. are you gonna trim around all of the barbed wire fences all day long which would take 1-2 hrs on every property? i don't think so. if you did you wouldn't make any money. they certainly aren't going to pay you to do that.

these are examples of what NOT to do. way too much spraying and too far away from the fence line. the first one they should have sprayed about half as far away from the wall. that appears to be a concrete wall so i wouldn't even spray that. it would be easy to trim along that fence/wall. who knows though? that wall may be miles long so they got tired of fooling with it?

the second one? i have no idea what they were thinking.

it's too cold up there for weeds and bugs.

we have pesticide companies here that spray every day on house after house. termites, ants, spiders, or whatever. they spray and treat for it.

weeds? we have tons of farmland. it gets sprayed with roundup in large quantities over hundreds of acres.

i'm not saying these are safe products. they're not. i buy organic food that hasn't been sprayed with roundup because i care about my health. after mixing up gly i wash my hands every time and try to avoid getting any on my hands in the first place. if i get a drop on them i wash them off right away. this stuff is no joke. it's poison and bad for your health.

use care when spraying and you should have no problems.

so waste twice as much time since you have to trim it twice? vertically and horizontally.

why not spray it and not have to worry about it for a month or two? is that too simple? i don't get it.

i can understand not spraying if you are mowing a lawn that is 100% perfect without a single weed in it. that makes some sense but on oridinary run of the mill lawns spray it and move on.

i think it depends on the area you live in. some places are all "fancy" and everything so any use of spray is frowned upon. down here everyone uses it so it's very common to see fence lines sprayed and so forth. there's so many cow pastures and such. they spray around the fence all the time. they aren't gonna trim around a fenced in pasture that is 25-100 acres in size. they ride around with a boom sprayer and spray the fence lines to keep them from growing up out of control.
