I've started picking up accounts and I have ran into an issue. I went out and bought a Gravely 52 with a Kaw 27hp. It's great. i really like the ride and the cut is great. With big yards it's a breeze. But the smaller yards it's a bit tougher. I am really thinking hard about buying either a walk behind or a stander next season if I continue picking up more accounts. What is everyone's opinion between a stander and a walk behind?? Pro's and Con's.

Just from the looks, if you went with a Gravely stander and needed to use it as a walk behind, I feel that you would have to lean over to use the controls making it a bear on your back.

I am needing it for small backyards where going in gates is tough with a big wide deck and movement is restricted.

The 36 in deck looks appealing!!!
Thoughts?????

Others like their gravely prostances, I found mine to be unreliable and just not built to withstand commercial use. Never will I buy another gravely again.

As far as using it as a walk behind...my feeling is if you can walk, you can ride. It will still do just as bad on hills walking as it will riding.

If it's not your main mower and only used on occasion to mow back yards with smaller fences, might as well save yourself on the extra cash of a stander and just go with a walk behind.

I run a 36 inch pro stance for gaited backyards that my 60 won't fit through. I'm not sure what you mean about maneuvering the larger Mower in small yards though unless you're saying your 52 is not a ZTR? I won't touch a yard with the 36 if I can fit the 60 in, and when I say fit I mean anything that has less than 60 inch gaps so that it physically won't fit LOL:D

Walk behind is nice if you have a lot of slopes that you mow but other than that I don't think I would consider a walk behind unless it was just to save money. You can walk behind the pro stance and drive it but it's kind of pointless, why walk when you can stand? I've never been in a circumstance where walking behind it was any better than just standing on it?

36 walk, 48 stander. Every 36 stander I have ever seen ruts / tracks up the yard. Just can't get enough tire under it to offset the weight. YRMV Ferris is hydro walk , big azz tire, big hp.
If the lawn isn't maintained (proper fert program, good grass), I've noticed the same.

Will a Pro Stance perform as good as a walk behind on step banks??
No. Standers on hills are horrible.
