That's kinda what happened here last night with the trees, though most were in or past full color. We got a frost last night, though not a hard one, but I get up today and under several of my own trees where it was clean last night, it looks like someone just grabbed the tree and shook all the leaves off. They are laying there in a blanket on the ground right under the tree instead of being strewn all over from a wind. A couple went bald over night and others are dropping like rain today yet others are still green.:dizzy:
Yeah pretty much same thing on this side of the pond LOL

My Ginkgo tree is still completely green. Had a cold snap last night and the whole tree dropped its leaves.....didn't even change color!
Very interesting. My customer has 3 nice Ginkgo trees with green leaves still on it. We are supposed to get a hard frost (first one) Friday night so I'm going to check it the next day and see if same thing happens.

i think what it is...is that it was colder down here last week than it was up north for some odd reason. it got down to freezing one night but then things warmed up and now it's getting cold again.
Yea, Charles mentioned it would be in the 30's at night. While it was in the 50's at night up yonder. Very weird :dizzy:
Cold snap is coming though :hammerhead:

I guess I might be getting old. Honestly I don't remember year to year when the leaves fall. I just know they do. I know my year starts big time in February cutting tons of roses and ungodly amounts of Pampus Grass and slows in mid september/October when the grass slows down. I'm ready for the holidays and some slow time.

Same here, I felt like I was just passing it over just in case the homeowner looked out the window. Yeah I better leave it on the rack I guess.
You can turn the fact that you are not trimming during leaf season to your advantage. My response to customers who question this is to inform them that their price is based on the amount of time I am on their property. By not trimming I have actually saved them $x this trip. However, if they want their lawn edged and trimmed each week i am happy to do so. No one has ever requested trimming after receiving this explanation.

Does that mean your mowing price fluctuates from week to week or are you referring to just the fall season you bill hourly?

i just remember last year i was doing leaves all the way into the middle of january which was very abnormal. we had a drought last year so that had something to do with it. this year has been plenty of rain and the leaves are falling off earlier than usual. normally here they start falling late october and slowly fall until right before christmas. this year they started as normal but then this week they all just started coming down like crazy all at once. it's been raining all week too so i can't get any work done. gonna try to work the next 2 days but pushed everyone else off until next week.

Last year temps were 10 degrees warmer on average than this year. Which I did not realize until I looked at the archives.

And I actually thought it was about the same.

So, that means we should see snow within a few weeks around here. And be plowing or at least salting within a month.

Yea we had a heat wave all Summer last year. Hot, dry wind blowing constantly. Even when it did rain, that wind would quickly dry things out. This year a bit cooler and wetter. Rained yesterday and pouring down now. Must have a lot to do when the leaves fall. Like night and day compared to last year. I have some work to do but it looks like it will have to wait until tomorrow. Supposed to be Sunny and cold then. Temps dropped all day yesterday. I am going to sit around and get fat if this keeps up:cry: Maybe I can get on Larrys beer diet:drinkup:
