has anyone raised the air filter on a ztr? My gravely has a kawa with donaldson air filter that sucks a lot of dust/dead clippings etc......would it hurt the engines ability to breathe if l extended it say up behind the seat a couple of feet? anyone tried it?
l recently tried wrapping a chux type disposable around the filter itself, you can see how much its copping (l mow a lot of very dusty/sandy country)
it looks like you are missing the mushroom/umbrella piece that goes on the intake of the filter housing. it sucks in the air from up underneath it. it should look like this:
Something isn't right. My Gravely with the Donaldson system hardly gets even dusty. Heck, I've only replaced the inner filter once and the outer about 5 or 6 times in 2200+ hrs. Is something missing on the system?
l've just discovered there is a pre-filter (25 083 03S) to suit the filter - is this ok to use with the kawi fx481v? Won't starve it for air?
.....in answer to previous replies, yes the dome is fitted, l removed it for the photo, and the rubber boot is fitted & pointed down - l just work in very dry, sandy, dusty conditions here in Oz
i would just keep it blown out often. every 25hrs. that's what i have to do on my kohler air filter. it will get grass all over it like in your pics if i wait 50-100hrs without cleaning it.
One of these would probably do more good than raising the intake a few feet. I always used to run them but haven't since my engine was replaced (and they threw out my old air cleaner in the process) some people say they do nothing but I do notice a difference in how dirty my filters get from week to week now vs before.
l've got a piece of foam in the dome now but might try and re-work it
