I'm coming from a Cub Cadet SLTX 1054 that I constantly had to work on.

I'm looking to upgrade so that I won't have to worry about doing any major repairs or replacements for the foreseeable future. Understand, I don't mind regular maintenance. I'm talking about 2-3 belts per year and 2-3 sets of blades per year on the old Cub.

So, I'm willing to spend good money for a low-end commercial grade mower. My yard is about 3 acres and flat with zero trees.

The Gravely dealer suggested a ZT HD 52" but also has a pretty good deal (I think) on a Pro-Turn 152. Is that entirely too much for my lawn?

ZT HD 52" with Kawi FR691 = $5,300
Pro-Turn 152 with Kohler ZT730 = $7,000

Thanks in advance!

I would get a scag tiger cat 2 I have 2 of the 52 inch models for my buisiness and i have a 61 tiger cat 2 that i mow my own house with as i mow about 5 acres. The tiger cat 2 mows as fast as a mower that cost 10k and the velocity plus deck is tied with the 7 iron pro for the best cut in my opinion. Plus scags are built to be bulletproof as i had a scag that lasted 5000 hours that i gave to my dad and it still cuts his yard like it is brand new. If ypu would like fuel savings get a efi engine. They burn about 60% of what a regular engine burns

We have the Gravely Pro Turn 152 but flipped flopped from above - with Kawi FR691. I absolutely love this mower. Stabil, comfortable, mows beautifully, quick. I can't say enough good about this mower. It's been terrific. It will be more than enough for what you need and then some. X 10

If you live close to Pittsburgh Pa man I got a Toro 6000 series 52 inch deck with puffer air ride seat that I would be willing to sell you for $4,500. It has 1500 hours an is still running on all original belts.

There's no such thing as overkill. I'm likely going with a Deere 915B for my small residential lawn. It's the same price as the proturn you mentioned. I Also considered bad boy, ferris, exmark and snapper pro. Scags were out of my price range.

After way too much reading about mowers on here I cam to a realization that any commercial mower will likely do just fine for me. The dealer is more important than the brand. As a homeowner I can be more picky about the conditions I mow in and can work around some particularities a machine may have.

What's your mower doing that's making it go through blades so quickly? I'd think blades are more conditions than machine.

For that money the Deere is a better mower at same price. Also the Snapper Pro mowers are a better buy at the same price. Decks on both (Deere 7 iron and Ferris ICD) are better cutting decks. Scag TC is a great mower but aren't they in the $8k range? If $7k - Tigerr Cat is up there with the Deere.

For $7k I would get something other than a Gravely.

If you can afford it, go for it. That's why you work. 52" Turf Tiger 2 for 1 acre here. 0% financing. I'm sure hiring someone to do my lawn would be around $175 a month, so I rather spend that on a mower that i'll end up mowing. I wanted this my first and last zero turn, and when I get 5 acres down the road, I'll be equipped to start mowing.

My parents got the mower for me and my wife as a gift when we bought the house we have now. They got it as a leftover mower from Home Depot. I always thought whoever put it together didn't set the deck up right or something. The height adjustments went from 1-10 but if you put it any lower than 4 or 5, the deck was just laying on the ground and the spindles would leave lines in the yard.

I think some of my early problems were not understanding some of that. But later on, even after figuring out the mower's quirks, it got to where it just wouldn't hold a belt on, even after multiple trips to the Cub dealer.

Well I got the Gravely and love it.

As some of you said, it's worth it to know you have something that should last almost forever.

Thanks for all your input!
I know this is an old thread, but I recently bought a used pro turn 152 with 190 hrs on it for a great price! I love it so far. I was hoping you could let me know how yours is doing after this long.
