This is a kbg cool season lawn. Have 3 clumps of tall feacue with rings of dead grass around them.
Some type of fungus caused by tall fescue?
This is the only tall fescue in the lawn and also the only dead spots like this.

None of those causes. blades sharpened daily, cut weekly, this is an organic lawn and they water early morning.

This is something caused by the tall fescue. these spots are directly circling the only three tall fescue spots in the lawn.

Lawncuttin, this is mysterious!
My only guess is that--it is the disease "necrotic ring spot".
They seeded in the dead spots with tall fescue. This as a means of correcting the NRS problem.

Maybe they would agree if you offered to kill it with Roundup. Then resod the spots.
Wait--organic program only--cut it out and resod. Charge what it is worth, (skilled labor) --say a dollar a minute plus cost of sod.
Or reseed the spots with a high quality, disease-resistant mixture that includes plenty of perennial rye. And no wide-blade tall fescue.

It could also be summer patch. Some bluegrasses are resistant to NRS but susceptible to summer patch and the other way around. Both can be controlled with fungicide but it's best to use disease-resistant cultivars. You may need to send a sample in for disease identification so you can choose the right cultivar. Ryegrass suffers winter damage here and is considered a temporary grass but I have used it just for this purpose. It has thinned out but lasted 4 or 5 years now.

Frogeye pattern. Look like fusarium patch, which is now called summer patch.

FWIW...I am seeing Pythium on some lawns now. 3 lawns last week tested positive for it. First new cases in 4 years

If you look at the lawn you can tell it’s thick and has a high level of thatch. What it seems to me is disease. Like necrotic ring, brown patch, or grey leafspot. Hard to tell. If you stick your hand in the lawn the closer you get to the soil you will feel the humidity. The perfect prescription for disease. That lawn needs a good combing for sure.

make sure you spray your blades with alcohol. If it's disease you will spread it if you don't bag

The best way to identify a disease is to see the disease scoring on the blade if the susceptible host isn’t totally dead. If it is then only a lab sample or if you have a microscope will tell you exactly what it is.

You guys are great. I love reading these posts, as the amount of different views allows for a trial of different choices. I have noticed that a fungicide took over most of my lawn, as it had been resided by seed that the root system wasn't strong enough to fight it. I gave up after trying different methods. I found that the lawn died accept for some patches. I got my metal rake and began tilling the dead lawn then I over lined it. Figured it couldn't hurt as everything was dead. Bought a load of top soil and dropped it on the dead lawn. Raked in new seed and have the beginnings of a new lawn. Centipede grass is beginning to take root over my fescue. I have found that getting on my knees and using a dandelion fork is the best way to get most of it. As the fescue gets stronger and roots, I think this should keep it at bay. Thanks to all you guys who enjoy...no, love your work and lawns like I do
