I bought a Stihl FS 110R this year after using Echo for 12 years. The power of the 4-Mix Stihl is awsome compared to Echo but the Echo trimmer head seems to be superior to the Stihl.
The problem is, normally one side of the Stihl trimmer head does not feed out.
I have re-wound the string as carefully as possible (according to the Micky Mouse instructions and the way it was originally wound) and still have the same problem. A few times I have finished up with one string cutting.
Is the problem with the trimmer head or my not knowing what I am doing?
I have thought about going to A Kwik Loader.
Any Ideas?
Thanks,
James

Those trimmer heads are just a pain. When I would sell a stihl to a customer I would usually try to get them to buy the "rapid loader" head from echo.
But I warn you....make sure that model doesnÂ’t need the adapter. Another note: If the head is not perfectly centered it will cause a small vibration and cook up the gearbox real quick.

I have not had any problems with the 25-2 heads, but I do not run Stihl line in them. In my opinion, the Stihl line does not wind very well and seems to "weld" pretty easily. If you don't want to change heads, try the Husqvarna Titanium line. IMO, it is absolutely awesome for feeding and longevity.

Been using Fs 85 RT 25-2 autocut for over 2 seasons now, #1 in my mind, so easy to reload and use. Make sure you tap out the line accordingly, don't get too short and tap out which will cause line snapping and you have to open again. Also when rewinding, make sure your line is in synch accordingly not criss-cross one another making hard to tap out which will cause snapping too often.
Need practice and forget the word "Echo".
Stihl, eXmark, Redmax as always.

I've used 25-2 Stihl head on my FS85 for four years and I've never had the problem you describe. I'm careful about rewinding the spools, but the feeding is never a problem (unlike the Shin head I used on my Shin T-320 before the Stihl). Wind the new string carefully so that it is always "over the top" and weaving its way back and forth across the width of the spool. Be sure it does not get overlapped, so that the string has to be pulled out "from under" another winding.

Just wanted to chime in, because I have had the same problems with my FS 85: line snapping or welding in the spool. I checked with my local stihl guy and he told me not to wind the line around the stationary spool, but to rotate the spool and let the line feed in. Also don't load the the line directly from its reel, pay it out on the floor so it looses it "reel" memory and then load it into the trimmer spool. It helps to use hex profile line, I'm told.

good timing on this, happened a few times the other day near the end of a job,.. this was a first for on this trimmer, but did switch out line to higher gauge line(run gator line) for some new work. after reading replies, sure now it was my re-spooling tennique, or lack of it and not the higher gauge line.

I run Gatorline (0.095") in my Autocut 25-2 spools. I have never had a problem with welding or other things spoke about here. I do wind my spool right off the supply spool. Yes, it is a bit twisted, but that does not create a problem. I count the number of winds, and usually use 20 or 21 winds to fill the spool. I have two spools so a full one is always in the tool box.

The Stihl spool is superior to the Shindawa unit I used before I purchased the Stihl. The Shin spool would tangle the line, but the divided spool used by Stihl solved that problem.

I had this problem all of the time on my 110. Now after i load the head I spray a little fluid film in the openings where the line feeds out, hasn't happened since. It lubricates the line so it doesn't bind up.

Love mine, currently running the 25-2 on my FS 130 with gatorline (.095') and it does great, smooth feeding never welds and wears like iron. Was previously running Rotary brand twisted line and nothing but good performance there too. Dont let the line get to 1'' out from the spool or it wont feed and will break off though, I like keeping mine at the max at all times even if I cut off an inch or so at every tap, keeps the line in good shape which allows for a better cut.
