I'm a little late to this thread but here are my thoughts...

The BR800 is perfect for nearly everything, I think it is the most reliable, comfortable, controllable and it's the second most powerful.

I feel like if you were somehow not a fan of the BR800 the 8010, the Shindiawa 802, or the biggest red Max would be decent alternatives.

I personally don't see any reason to get a smaller backpack blower for "light duty". I have an older redmax I got from a neighborhood, think it's probably the smallest backpack you can buy. I know it isn't apples to apples considering it's age but I find the BR800 to be far more comfortable, despite its weight and size. And even besides comfort the time the BR800 saves is incredible, I do acre yards so they have longer driveways though. The feeling I get with that BR800 is I can literally just point and the leaves or grass and even sticks disappear. This just isn't the case with anything smaller.

Moral of the story, no matter what brand you choose get the biggest most powerful one that fits you best. And before buying one at least try out the BR800. If you feel like that's inefficient for your use, then the only other option I see is a decent gas or preferably battery handheld. In that case you're not hoisting a backpack on to blow off a tiny driveway.
Not all jobs require the biggest most powerful blower available. In fact, blowing out flower beds using the biggest most powerful blower is silly. It blows everything out of the beds. The mulch, the pine straw, pea gravel, everything. You wouldn't use a 5lb sledgehammer to nail a roofing shingle would you?

Dunno, my 8010 does fine with flower beds, just gotta be easy on the throttle.

I must live in a decent city because 6 years into this I havent had anything stolen or worried to much about it. Leave my cages unlocked at many sites. Do have big locks for when I'm at a gas station.
