Curious what type of ear pro y’all are using. I’ve been using the worktunes connect by 3M, (muff style/Bluetooth) and recently they’ve been starting to hurt my head where they press the arms of my glasses into my head. To me ear pro is one of my most important pieces of safety gear, even more so than my glasses (I’ve gotten really good at “safety squints”) 😂 kidding, I won’t be outside without glasses, but curious as to what works for y’all.

I like the muffs because it keeps dirt and dust out of my ears, but I’m having a lot of discomfort on my big yards or tight routes.

I tried the 3M Bluetooth headphones. Quickly returned them, as I found they caused a droning sound that was worse than no ear-pro.

Now, I use regular earbuds, + passive earmuffs. The muffs block most of the noise. The noise that leaks past the glasses earpieces gets blocked by the earbuds. Plus, I don't need to turn the volume up as loud to hear clearly, which is healthier for you ears too.

A quick note - I use the Stihl passive muffs. These are nice because they make a "hygiene kit" that comes with replacement pads & foam inserts. It's nice to refresh the pads after a while.

I find that over the ear protection gives me the helicopter effect. Its almost worse than no protection.

I use Isotunes 2.0. They are actual hearing protection with Bluetooth to boot. The sound quality is good. They come with a few different size interchangeable ear pieces, enabling you to choose the most comfortable fit.

If you really must have the best, the Ultimate Ears UE8 is hard to beat. It will run about $50.00 to have the kit formed to your ear by an audiologist. You send those molds in and they'll be built to conform EXACTLY to your ears and are incredibly comfy! This design also makes for incredible isolation. As for sound quality, they will likely sound MUCH better than anything you have in your home as they utilize an 8 driver system per ear. Most ear buds sound like an old AM transistor radio by way of comparison. If you want to jam a song, it won't be the mower that could damage your hearing, these things will reproduce music cleanly to very harmful levels...and sound perfect doing it at ludicrous volume, no breakup at all. But if you feel $2400.00 is a little too pricey for you, they also make an excellent 2 driver set that still sounds extremely good and will run about $600.00.

If these are a bit high for your budget, then Alien Ears would be my next choice. The G16 is an 8 driver custom molded to your ear and a piece of music nirvana! These are their top of the line and around $875.00 and worth every penny. They have a complete line up that starts around $200.00 so they have something to fit everyone's budget.

What is common with both brands is that you may think you have some nice sounding muffs or buds...but you really don't by way of comparison to anything about $350 and up from Alien Ears or ANY model from Ultimate Ears. And when you factor in they're made to fit your individual ear perfectly, the amount of noise reduction is just phenomenal! Many bands finds they need a directional mic facing the crowd and have the level set about 20dB down so they can hear the crowd between songs...they definitely have major isolation! These are touring ready, so they're tough and would work fine for anyone mowing.

I had a hard enough time justifying the sony's for mowing lol!!! But I very much would like to try something like you described above. Actually, I wouldn't because then I'd want them!
It's like listening to a very high-end audio system...only without the huge cost of a high-end audio system! LOL And yes, you'd want them...

I also use the ISOTunes Pro 2.0. I like them a lot. They have a newer version with noise cancelling if you want that. Sometimes they can be too quiet if you've got old tips or don't have them sealed right, but I do like knowing that they won't let me raise the volume too high and wreck my ears.

I like the SureFire plugs.
Just the basic ones like you pictured.
Walmart stopped carrying those, so I've just been buying plain, old corded tri-flange plugs.
The yellow ones they carry in a 3-pack.

Also just tried the blue ones from Harbor Freight. Seem the same, but the cord is less flexible.

I can't wear muffs for shooting OR mowing - too clunky and uncomfortable.

I ordered these https://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Reu...IjoiMC4wMCIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ==&sprefix=silicone+ear+plugs+blue,aps,105&sr=8-2
I must say that I have been VERY pleased with them. They are much more comfortable than the 3M plugs I had been using, and fit my ear canal as if they were custom-made. Durability appears to be the same, noise reduction seems to be slightly better due to better fit. They don't have any funny smell like other value ear plugs sold in bulk on Amazon, but they also do not come with a reusable cord. However, my 3M cord fits these plugs perfectly. For the price, this has to be the best value in earplugs out there. Heck, one pair has lasted me nearly 7 months, and still functions almost like new. Just take 30 seconds to wash with warm water and dish soap as they get dirty, and they are ready to be worn again and again....I couldn't be happier. The 100-pack I bought should last a solo op like me beyond retirement.
