You will need to take a written airbrakes test and then a road test in a airbrake truck and trailer.

ny is different. air brake is a restriction. dmv site says that ny has 5 endorsments tank, hazmat, doubles, passengers, and school. There is a seperate test for tow truck also. So if I have a class A with only restriction being a truck trailer combination. Then I cant drive tractor/trailer but I should be good for air brake

Correct. Nothing will show up under endorsements for air brakes. But you will only have the no tractor trailer or something along that lines under restrictions. Provided you pass both written and verbal tests.

That's how Mass. is at least. I have no restrictions and a tanker endorsement.

did you just read the title or did you read the whole post?
Yes I read it. My answer should've been more complete but was typing on my phone. If your test included the written airbrake portion and you tested on the truck and trailer that you have talked about recently then you should be good to go. I would confirm this answer with you local DMV. When I took mine years ago the test was broken down into 7 parts and you just tested on what you needed, in your case that would be General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combination Vehical. Its been almost 10 years that I've been through it so things most likely have changed.

I passed my Class A CDL test yesterday. I just noticed on the temporary license paper that it says endorsments-none. But I took it on an air brake truck and trailer and did all the air brake tests! Did I get screwed?
Air is included.

Airbrakes, tanker and hazmat are endorcements

Air isn't an endorsement or an endorcement.

NY isn't different here. All the states are the same.

Congrats on passing!

Any tips for those of us about to take the driving test? I have the permit, but haven't had much drive time. I'm hoping that once we slow down in the fall, I'll be able to get out on the road more and get some practice in.

thanks. getting the right instructor is half the battle or more. I got the right guy the first time around which I was due for after what I went through for the regular drivers license 6 years ago. The study book from dmv definitly over prepared me for the walk around, this guy didnt have me do half of what I was prepared to do but thats subject to the person you get. And I watched some you tube videos of walk arounds and air brake tests, that was helpfull. I practiced backing up the trailer at my old school for an hour. I dont have a big trailer with air brakes so that was the only practice I got. I would have done more. I got 15 points marked off by the end and your allowed 50.

Quick question guys so I have a class a right now but now air brakes but I just got the endorsement of passengers for a part time job I got but I have to do a pre inspection for it but if I get air brakes could I use it for my class a because the dmv said it would be a class b

Calling @cwren2472

I’m not answering the guy who joined to ask a CDL question, and posted it in two different threads. One of which is 11 years old. Seems 🤖 like to me.
Disagree - there's no way a bot would write something that long with zero punctuation and 4 uses of the word BUT in one run-on sentence.

I have no idea what he's asking but it feels like something involving a surge brake endorsement so ill defer to the local expert, @High Plains

I'd suggest he contacts his DMV. What's he gonna say, "But gee officer, the guys at the lawnmowing forum told me I'd be just fine with these endorsements, and I have no idea why I couldn't stop for the school bus picking up kids...."
If he does, I hope to God he has a dashcam so he can post the video later. It's only fair.
