I have about 130’ of border on 676 sq ft worth of beds I’m writing up a this morning. I’m kinda over selling beds with trenches dug that require running a trimmer and or edger around. I want to start pushing hard borders that just need a normal trimmer pass and retain the bed material. I can sell as retaining the material fairly easily I think, especially if I mention that a trench might add to the mowing price if it’s to be kept perfect.

The cost of metal is substantially higher than the plastic counterparts. Then there’s the composite L shaped ones that look like a possible choice. If plastic degrades in a few years it could potentially be more cost effective to just replace with a routine mulch refresh every couple years. My clients tend to keep me around for years so I don’t want to sell something that’s junk, and really I don’t want to install junk at all.

I did 85ft of colmet 2 weeks ago and charged $10/ft for it. Nice payday, but still hate it. When driving those stakes, and rock can deviate the stake and puts a wobble in your straight line. I pulled a tight string line and it still got a little wavy.

Guys have posted using 20ft bare steel and rebar and welding it with a basic cheap Flux welder onsite. That seems like a better outcome if you have a way to carry 20ft sticks.

Metal edging for rocks, natural edging for mulch I thi k looks best.

I'd drop someone that installed some nonsense like that

We had a potential customer that had that junk sectioning off a 20x20 area of the yard that her little dog could go into. She wanted it pulled out every week mowed, then put back. She didnt want it trimmed around. I walked. Nobody has time for that garbage.
