Hi, I’m looking into buying a used stand on aerator for the upcoming season. The ones popping up in my area are Ryan, Toro, and exmark. Out of those brands which would be the best unit to go for, just looking for some insight. I know new would be ideal but just can’t do it now. Thanks

It really depends on how the particular machine has been treated. Companies with a lot of work run them daily even if it's super dry. Running dry hard ground hammers the crap out of a machine and you may plan on replacing many parts.

My local rental yard rented a Ryan to a bigger outfit here. He was ecstatic to rent for like 10 weeks straight. Until he got it back and it need thousands of dollars of parts. He said he'd never buy another Ryan, but I think it's more that the thing was abused unmercifully. :hammer:

Okay, 9.5mph vs 7mph. But I don't want to aerate running 9.5mph.

$2,250 for the seed box! Get out of here.
thats 25% more productivity over the 3000 and the seed box is well worth it. It drops seeds as you aerate vs taking more time to fill and then having to walk the area just aerated and then it’s not slinging it everywhere. Much more consistent seeding.

I wonder if they've fixed the problems with the bearings on the aeration drum failing prematurely in this version?

The GT30 mentions tapered bearings where the description of the 3000 hasn’t been updated. I think the 3000 is in its 3rd generation now so I’m sure any issues they had have probably been addressed.

If you have the business it is worth it. If you do not have the business it is not worth it.
This. I rent every year . I’m In ct it’s only a fall service. As a small 2 man op I’ll maybe book 3-4days of aeration per year. Yes it’s good $ easy $1200-$2k per day solo but the overall ROI on buying a machine is low. I also like to offer slice seeding at a higher price point. Renting a slice seeder is even cheaper. $100 a day and can make $1-$2k it’s a no brainer to just rent.

What I run into around here is NONE of the rental yards have any rider areators available for the entire fall season. I lost some jobs I couldn't perform because of it. I ended up saying screw it, as a solo I'm not buying a rider. I just have a few to walk with the old Ryan Lawnaire and that's all I do.
Though I did pick up a nice toro slice seeder to take space in the garage. :)

probably varies by area, but good luck getting a stander here. again, i'm no pro, but if you're lining up work around here and don't have an "in" with a stand on somewhere, you better be ready to lose work or beat yourself up with a crappy walk behind if your plan is to rent. and if you are able to reserve one 30 miles away, it's broken when your time comes. I just wanted it to do my home and rental. Try early in season, late in season, mid week, dry as **** out, wet as heck out. Doesn't matter. They're broken or someone has it. Someone was supposed to return it, but has kept it 2 extra weeks, etc.

If my livelihood depended on in, i'd buy what I could, maintain it, and do what I can do with it. Then move up. If I was already moved up, I'd buy what I needed to do it.

I have sung the praises of Stinger for many years up until last season when I had some significant issues with my 2450 dually hydro WB. Needed a whole new engine (retrofit to the Honda over that crappy Briggs Pro), and 1/2 tine reel stud assembly. I still plan on using it and I love using the machine vs an old Ryan type. But that put a saddle burr under my butt.

I'm brand loyal.........until that brand gives me a solid reason not to be.
