Need some help trying to get mower to start. I have a craftsman z5400 zero turn and the other day something odd happened. After I finished mowing I parked and turned the key off but then heard a winning noise like something was still on and it was coming from the starter it was still spinning where the teeth are not sure what it’s called on the starter. Then went to start it but nothing no click sound or anything. I then bought a new starter thinking it was it but still no luck still turn key and no luck. Was reading online might be the solenoid so bought a new one replaced it but still no luck. Bought a new battery still nothing. Checked the fuse that goes to the solenoid looks good but have a new one coming in tomorrow along with a new ignition switch. I can hear a click sound when I turn the key to the second position (not sure what it’s called but the on position)but when I go to try and start the mower I guess the ignition on the key nothing.

But here is the odd thing when I lift the set and i can touch the positive and negative on the solenoid with a screwdriver the mower tries to crank over. I am not super mechanically inclined but trying to figure out what else I can do before I take it to the shop. Any have any ideas sorry for long post. Thank you!

Have you looked at the safety switches in the seat, there may be a spring loaded switch on the bars as well and parking break.
The safety switches on our machines are all two wire switches, so they can be jumped fairly easily to see if that’s the issue.
If that is, I don’t recommend running with a eliminated safety switch, but it can get you through a lawn, not safe to eliminate it all the time though
Also check PTO clutch and PTO switch, those are also failure points and relatively easy repairs

Awesome I will definitely check on the safety switches and the PTO spots as well. Thank you
