New England, 65% Tall Fescue , 20% ryegrass 10% KBG 5% fine fescue & creeping red fescue

I've got the mesotrione and drive xlr8 and a new container of 2,4D.

I've got lots of crab grass out back in the lawn. However I own bottles of all these others and was thinking why not use them all with my methylated seed oil

Is this a bad idea ?

I also have blue dye and non ionic surfactant

Throw some ferromac iron liquid fert in the tank while your at it. Perk up the good stuff wither the bad stuff.
I will. I'll buy some. Realistically I've got bigger issues , I sort of lost the battle this summer. I also think I put down too much nitrogen fertilizer. I don't have irrigation and Boston has been in a heatwave.

Proper watering and mowing habits are FAR more important than throwing a bunch of chemicals at the damage after the fact.

Give your lawn one inch of water pet week and set your mowing deck to the highest setting and leave it there. Just doing those two things will give better results than you can imagine.

Do you have an annual maintenance program? If so describe it in detail

I don't have irrigation, I can't afford it. They want $5,000. So mother nature does my watering. And has worked out good for the front lawn for 3 years now. We had a wet summer last year.

This lawn we are discussing... was all dirt on April 20th. This is brand new lawn ( I understand I shouldn't plant grass in spring, but I needed to get something on the ground to control erosion. I plan to put down 150 pounds of seed , very soon in September/ October. By using my disc spike aerator for several hours. Poking a million holes. And praying next spring I have a perfect lawn, start the year off with crab grass pre emergent (my great mistake this year)

I have to say it looks beautiful before summer. Spring seedings never do well, 4-20 is late for a spring seeding imo. I only seed a few in March in ct if desperately needs it. (dormant seedings) it’s usually up by April 10. But it’s a hassle, needs special attention all summer from me timing pre/ weed sprays to the homeowner watering it in the summer. And with the heat we’ve had this summer, it had no chance with or without irrigation. That’s why I hate doing spring seedings, I won’t even take lawns that are renovated in the spring anymore. Meso is for younger crabgrass <4 tiller, id just go with the drive to avoid the whitening, I’m guessing all your plants are 5 tiller or more in august. Next year you need a better pre emergent, meso only lasts for 4 weeks as a preventative. Don’t forget the mso.

I realized meso worked amazing. Then it lost the battle. Nobody told me I had to double down with more meso 6-8 weeks after. Thank you for your comment. I agree. I can't wait to go wild with my over seeding in September.

Additional comments. I out down a bu ch of seed on a random area , never prepped or watered it. Not joking it took twice as long but I got 95% germination. I didn't roll it. Didn't water it. Didn't rake it in. Kind of funny if you ask me.

I gotta admit. Tall fescue is gorgeous. I know KBG is beautiful too, but I don't have the sunlight or the water

I heard TT tall fescue gas the deepest roots and is most drought tolerant. So I will continue with more fescue seed

Also im not sure how big the area is but tripod sprinklers shoot like 40 ft in every direction, in a heat wave I’ll drag my hose out and give my lawn a good soak every 3-4 days if it’s 90’ and skip that week of mowing. It’ll keep most of it alive.

I've got 6 tripods. I removed the impact brass. Added a 6 inch threaded riser. And then hunter pgp adj ultra and I used the nozzles that didn't short cycle the pump and gave me 60 foot radius. 17,500 sq ft. The hoses and tripods are so much work. Also. They are black rubber. And the heat and sun killed the grass under it when I tried. So I have burnt lines in grass from hose LOL

The water is free. But it's so much work. Then you gotta remove hoses to mow the lawn. I wish I did water more. But I promise it takes alot of work moving them around etc. I didn't realize how much grass lawn I decided to clear. The lawn was 8k sq ft. I more than doubled the size of the lawn , I spent $5,000 on loam , and hired a landscape rake to remove rocks and smooth out . I did not roll. And I had really good germination where the water landed.

Give yourself a crash course on irrigation. Its not rocket science. Study all winter. By spring you'll know enough to be able to design and install the system yourself. Your only cost would be materials and your time.

Call around and see what a company would charge to come out and just pull the lines in. Then do the rest yourself.

I did this exact thing at my house and hands down it was the best thing I've ever done to be able to maintain a nice lawn. If I can do it for 90k Sq ft you can certainly do it for yours.... feel free to follow up with any questions if interested.

That makes alot of sense. Thank you. I've also been debating just giving up.

I'm buying another 150 pounds of seed , so I can overseed in September.

I'm also guilty of mowing it kind of short in the heatwave

No offense to you personally, but what is about people/landscapers that makes them mow a yard at 3.5 inches or lower during the Summer when they can just as easily mow at 4.5 and help promote deeper rooting, a cooler soil surface and just overall plant health in general? I am in the Boston area and you are right, it’s been brutal. You did all that work to grow it in and then you go out (admittedly) and remove probably half the plant and shock it during the hottest period of the year?

And had you read the label, you would not “have to be3n told” to do more than one Meso application to try and keep weeds/crab out….

I have hundreds of massive oak trees and they make a mess out of my yard. So when I mow the lawn , shorter.... it picks up and bags all the debris from the trees , sticks branches twigs leaves etc. If I mow higher. Tons of sticks stay on the ground and it's extra work.

I learned alot reading the comments. I also was angry with the cran grass dominating my yard, growing 5x faster and taller than the fescue. This year was not good
