Well having issues with a brand new Outlaw XP with the Yamaha engine. First of the trailer mower started smoking badly went back to dealer, Dealer said was oil in muffler lol.. We used mower for 15 more hours mower started smoking again after 20 hours. Found out Yamaha had recall with reed valve. Dealer replaced reed valve that's when the issues started. When trying to start engine just locks up. sometimes it will crank run fine most of the time no chance. Battery voltage good they changed key and crank shaft position sensor still no go. The mower has less than 30 hours on it has been in shop 4 or 5 times I forget. At this point im trying to get a new mower but not getting any help from dealer or Bad boy. Any other Yamaha owners out their having issues?

I just wanted to add to my post that im not bashing anyone at all dealer is working on issues looks like they going to replace complete engine. They not very good on the communication part but seem to be trying everything in there power to make me happy. even bringing me a loaner. Love the power of the Yamaha and the ride of the Outlaw XP,

dang. i thought yamaha engines were gonna be the best. seems like they have troubles too. i wonder why it's so hard for companies to make simple lawnmower engines?
They run 4500-5000 hrs in testing. They just called me and said it's the recalled reed valve. When they came and got it they changed the spark plugs and it started right back up and they put it on the trailer to take back to the dealer.

i find that hard to believe. my kawi engine blew up at 1200hrs. engines are complete crap these days. there almost always seems to be some "faulty" part or something like that.

what is a reed valve? never heard of that before.

in most engines it is a $4 part that looks not much different that a thin piece of metal. There is one per cylinder and they help control crankcase vacuum. In a kohler sometimes they will fail or stick and the engine will burn oil bad.
That's what mine did yesterday and they fixed it today first thing this morning. The old one was a recalled valve and it's running like new again.

i guess that would explain oil in the exhaust pipe.
Yup. Fixed and back to me in 24 hrs so I'm not to upset. The mechanic at my gravely dealer worked in Florida at gravelys testing facility the past 2 years and he confirms that he personally saw the Yamaha's with 4500 hrs before going out and they were using automotive oil from walmart.

if that's true then kawi, kohler, and vanguard will be out of business very soon since their engines don't even last half that long.

I've got 1500 on a kawi now and not ever had a single issue. I've seen plenty of Kawis with 3000 on them. But we will see how these Yamaha's hold up. Took a little bit of a chance but Yamaha's engineering in all their other small engines has always been some of the best.
