Why would you be adding tweels to the Ferris?
I always add tweels to every mower we get. I’ve had really good life span out of them and we have a lot of hills here in NE Tenn and the Tweels perform excellent on the hills even when it’s wet. We also mow a lot of new construction properties and have a significant amount of flats per season so it eliminates that as well. Contrary to popular belief it doesn’t soften the ride compared to a lowered air pressure rear tire. If anything it is stiffer.

Right on! The reasons you mentioned are excellent reasons to get them.

I was hoping you weren't going to say you switch to them for the ride quality, because as you said, they do not help with that.

I called Zglide suspension and they discontinued their line for Scag so I measured the caster tower on the Scag and the John Deere and they are both 5 1/4” so I’m going to try and swap the Zglides off my John Deere onto the Scag to see if I can make them work. I bought the pneumatic tires for the Scag but they didn’t ride near as good as the front tweels on the Scag so I’m going. Just too bouncey even at low psi. So I’m going to put the tweels back in the front.

Are the pneumatic fronts for the Scag actually the same size as the run flats? I know they are smaller for the JD and I had to adjust my deck pitch to accommodate that fact. They are narrower slightly than the run flats, and they are smaller in diameter by 1/2". If the ones for the Scag are the same way, I may just skip them.

Yeah the run flats are identical. It would be hard to tell the difference. Here is a run flat and a pneumatic beside each other for comparison. I’ve ran both and for the price I would do the front Tweels instead of pneumatic front casters. Just my experience with them. The Tweels really absorb the front impacts where the pneumatic fronts still transfer a lot of bounce back into the machine. Even at 10 psi. Your mileage may vary though.

Thanks, the pics are very helpful. I like them for more than the ride though. I like how well they flex when going over edges where the drive or walk is lower than the edge of the turf. I can glide right over those same edges with the pneumatics on my JD where the run flats always skidded and drug along the edge tearing it when making an angled approach to the edge of the lawn etc. These Scag run flats do the same thing and it slows me down a lot when on props that are like that. For being smooth tread vs the ribbed on my JD, the Scag run flats definitely scrub when reversing or turning in tight areas where I can't get a head start on castering them a little before having to reverse.

Maybe the tweel caster wheels would do the same as the pneumatics on those edges I mentioned, I can't say as I have no experience with them. I also get conflicting reports on them on here and YT, which is pretty common to be honest, so I am not sure what to do now LOL

Yeah that’s a tough one. I paid $458 for the pneumatic tires and wheels set so the costs are pretty close either way. The tweels have been pretty good about not catching and just rolling over edges and roots and things. The run flats definetly catch and skid a lot more for sure.

I was about to pull the trigger on a new Ferris isx3300 with the 60” icdeck and 40hp EFI Vanguard.
I was researching the icd deck cut quality compared to the other top brands and found it lacking.
Ferris announced a redesign to the new icd+ deck back in October now available on the larger deck units.
I currently run a new Scag turf tiger 2 with 40hp vanguard and four John Deere z960m with 31hp Kawasaki. The cut quality is tremendous on either of those brands with the John Deere taking the lead slightly due to smaller clippings and the ability to mow backwards when backing up. The velocity deck just leaves a clump mess when backing up. Especially mowing leaves.

I wanted the Ferris due to back issues and pain after mowing all day. I’ve tried to get the Scag to an acceptable level but it is still pretty rough even with front tweels.
I just wanted to see if there was any feedback on the new deck at Ferris becuase I don’t want to pay $19000 and the deck cut quality be sub par and with it being the dead of winter I can’t really demo it properly till spring to see. Thanks in advance
I just bought a Ferris ISX330 with the 60" ICD Deck and 40hp EFI Vanguard....but my question is an unusual one. If you know the size of the Socket needed to remove the nut holding the blades on, please let me know...I don't need it now, but like sharp blades so sharpen them often. Want to prepare and buy the impact socket needed.

That should be in your ops manual under the blade changing section.
