I think that is OK
My cost is 3.55%- I also cover myself at that same rate.
This is thru Hartford which carries my lib.
If I went with the state program it would have been 5.4%
State is for if you cant get it on your own. Hard for a new company to get sometimes.

capt green,

I personally have not had anybody ask if I had WC, they just wanted to a certificate of ins for liability in our area. And as stated above you don't have to have WC ins until you have several employees. Check into Moresource in our area and they can get you on sometype of group that can save you some money too.

Just to re-clarify, I am SOLO, I DO NOT have any employee's, otherwise I would have WC on them, some people need to read before they comment, geez... Thanks to the helpful folks on this site I have gained some insight, I'll check with the above website to find guidelines for my state.

I always had general liability until last year. I took on a complex that required me to show workmans comp on myself. My insurance agent told me that I could sign a waiver and that would take care of my problem. DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY! I still had to get W/C on myself. He asked me what I made and told him that the contract was for 10,000. I had to pay 1.000 up front. After the year was up, I now pay it quarterly. I do have employees help me but I pay them cash and do not offer them W/C. How much more do you think it will cost me to put 2 employees on it for say I pay them 5000. each per yr. Or my business pulls in 30,000 before tax.????
