Hi there ,boy its hot today. Figure I would check my belt adjustment . The book says 10 lbs half inch deflection. I do not have a guage to tell what 10 lbs is.How do you do this without a guage to measure it.Is 10lbs of pressure, like what it takes to open a beer can tab or what? SERIOUSLY though how can you wing it without a gauge ?

personally, I watch the belts all the time, i always tighten them so they move 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch when i puch on them w/ my thumb. You can also see if they are vibrating when engaged means there is play, tighten them up. Also if your mower bogs down and engine remains at the same rpm your belts are slipping, tightnen them up. if they have a shiny glaze on the side almost sivler looking, replace them.

If you really had to "gauge" it, and know exactly, then I would suggest a cheap fish scale.
