I had a 97 Ford f-250 with the 5.8 and it was a nice truck until I wrecked it. But does anyone have a 95-97 f-250 with the 7.3 in it? What type of mpg could I get? Towing? Not towing? I am looking at ext. cab long beds and was wondering what type of mpg I could get. I will be towing a 18ft open trailer with 2 dixie's on it most of the times.

our 1997 f-350 7.3 is a dog compared to our 03 6.0 f-450. that thing will probably run forever though. we get around 14 mpg towing a loaded dual axle trailer.

I'd seriously consider one. My 96 is almost the exact truck you are talking about. It's a PSD 4x4 ext. cab longbed 5 speed, and I'm gonna roll over 200K in the next month or two easy. I love it, i rode with a friend of mine today in his dad's 05 6.0 pulling his dad's deere 4710 tractor, loader, and box blade, and I honestly think my 7.3 would have out pulled it. They are a really good, truck, other than fuel leaks up around the filter bowl, glow plugs, and cam sensors, but other than that, I love both of mine. And you can't beat that body style.

get one! My old bose had a 97 7.3 f-250 ex-cab 4x4 long bed. Towing a cat 262 w/ tracks, hudson 12 ton trailer Still got 12mpg. If it was pulling the 6x16 landscape trailer w/ 2 turf tigers and other misc stuff got 16+/- mpg. They cant be beat, I can't wait Untill I find one for my self!

We have a 1996 F-250 ext.cab long box psd w/ 5speed like you were talking about and it has been great. It has 122k on it and runs awesome, in fact i have been looking for another one just like it as i really like that body style, etc., but it is hard to find one in good shape without a billion miles. I would buy one in a heart beat if you find a nice one.
