I have passed out 2,500 post cards in a 25 square mile area. All subdivisions with homes $150,000 and up. 2 weeks have gone by and only 1 call so far. An estimate that shows little promise. I am trying the 1-800-mow-my-lawn for advertising and my postcards had the 1-800 number on them. Post cards looked very professional.

My question to you guys would be: Target the same subdivisions hoping repeat advertising would help people recognize the card and call. I am not sure how to describe what I am trying to say. I guess we all identify with the golden arches as McDonald's! I think when people see the same thing over and over they become more comfortable with it.

OR....move on the another area.

Another concern with the 1-800 advertising is that their is no offer like 1/2 off the first mowing or fert application and so on until after they call me. Their is no baiting so to speak.

I still have hopes the bermuda has not begun to green up so their is still a couple more weeks to go. Fescue is now growing but is just a fraction of what is in subdivisions down here.

What are your thoughts?

The area I just targeted is in a range of 5-15 miles North from my new house. I cannot go south, very rural. The area I want to target next is 15-25 miles North of my house. Now these areas are adjacent to an expressway and are going to be my new core area. I do plan on keeping some of my choice accounts by my old house which is 40 minutes from my new house. I can get all of those done in one day.

How large of an area is considered to big for your core area? 15 mile radius? 25 miles?

I think it's still a little early. I've passed out 620 flyers so far, got 3 calls and landed 2. 2 of the calls came in before we even got back the first day. The third "call" stopped us while we were passing the flyers out. It has been silent since. People are still in a bit of winter shock from the length and severity of this past winter. They're not trying to rush straight from high heating bills to paying the grass man.

I would not advertise to the same group again. I've found that it does no good. I've tried readvertising in neighborhoods that I got no calls from one year again the next year and again, no calls.
