There are a thousand different factors out there that can effect mow time. My mower may be bigger, faster, etc. I don't stop, as soon as my feet hit the ground, I am off to the races. No time for little breaks here and there. When I trim, I am almost jogging with the trimmer. It still looks as good (or better) than the old man next door that literally crawls when he trims. Learn what climb cutting with the trimmer is and when you should and shouldn't do it. Getting used to your equipment is a huge time saver. Finding little ways to save a minute here or there is the only way to get more efficient.
Don't ask me why I am telling you guys this, just to let you try and under bid me next spring. You will figure it out, it just takes a little time and patience.

20-30 minutes per 1/2 acre?

lawnaltern...--sounds like you got some pretty good groundspeed going there but I am sure you can cut that time if you get a commercial mower like a walkbehind, out front deck or a zero turn mower.

and you also got a interesting concept on marketing: working for cheap. I never tried that since I found that if I don't get every dinkey lawn I bid, I seem to make more money and I am home sooner in the afternoon.

good luck to you.

sometimes less, sometimes more but never longer than 30min.
One guy? Trimming, blow off and everything? This was a response to s guy saying that he could never seem to be able to do any of his 1/2 acre lots in less than 20-30 minutes. Not me saying that it couldn't be done.

This seems about right. This is what it takes me to do my half acre standard subdivision lots, working solo, to stick-edge, mow (60" Lazer), trim, and blow. Some may run a bit longer when there is alot of trimming involved. Sometimes, when cutting real high, I blast over it a second time, also. This happens often.

If this is done with one mower, help me understand cuz the math ain't jibing in my head. If your average cutting speed in 5 mph then you cover ( 5 times 5,280, zero, zero, carry your 4 ---now divide by 60 ) equal 440 feet per min. With a 5ft deck that's 2200 sq ft/min. Let's see, 2200 will go into 43,560,,, I think 19.8 times so, if I ciphered this correctly, it'd take a bit shy of 20 min to just cut at 5 mph. Then you got to trim and blow and make the place look real nice. It looks to me like you'd have to several hands and show enough be high steppin to do an acre in 20 min.

Around here you see the hack and slash guys do a 1/4 acre lot in 15 minutes with 2 guys. My customer asked why it took me 3 times as long to cut the same sized yard. I pointed out the grass they were blowing in the beds, lack of bed edging and clumps all over the yard and he noticed that his yard didn't have these deficeincies. I told him I could go as fast as they do but he said "No thanks".

I think Glan was just sort of kiddingly replying to the first post, when it was said. "Don't ask me why I am telling you guys this, just to let you try and under bid me next spring." That's how I took it.;)

Now that's something to be proud of. Congratulations!

I have a 1.5 acre rear lawn area that I mow every two weeks and I do it in under 1/2 hour. That's running flat out on the Lazer Z HP, minimal trim, no blowing needed.

I also have a 1/4 acre lot that takes me almost an hour.

However, I would say that 30 minutes is about average for me on 1/2 acre lawns.

never said anything about 1 mower, LOL. notice i did say 'we', not 'me'.

depends on the prop but there are always a minimum of 2 ZTRs going, sometimes more ZTRs and walk behinds. all scag equipment, 61" Tigers, 48" and 36" walk behinds.

EDIT: who cuts grass @ 5mph? if the machine can go 10mph and still get favorable results, it goes 10mph. unless you are averaging in for turning, etc. at that rate, it would be more like 7mph. average.

I'z figuring an average of 5 mph with the all the startin, stoppin, turning, jerkin and trimmin round trees. When I try to cut flat out, the darn Z dang nah beats me to death. Seriously, most large areas here are bermudagrass, behia, or a combination thereof. It would be tough cuttin at high speed and get much quality.
