I quoted a job today to lay 20 pallets of sod on a customers lawn. The guy prepped the yard. it has been tilled and raked but no top soil has been added. I quoted him 3700.00 to lay the sod as the yard sits. That is labor and materials. Is this too low?:walking: I am expecting to make 1500 on the job in labor. Thanks

Do you have to buy the sod? If you have to buy the sold I would think it would be low depending on your area. Here in S. Fl you get about a 100 to 120 per pallet depending on the complexity of the project. How much do you pay per pallet of sod?

If you have to buy the sod @ 18-20 cents per sq-ft you will not make a dime.
I would charge .65-.85 per sq ft for a str8 install no prep work. Depending on layout and cuts.

120 a pallet x 20=2400 + markup(min 30%) 720= 3120.....Sod delivery charges?, Pallet Charges, time to take pallets back to get deposit back, trip to the dump to throw away the leftover peices of cut sod.....

plus your 1500 in labor so you are looking at 4600, even with a measly 30% markup on materials...

for 20 pallets of sod, roughly 10,000 square feet we would be at $8,000 to $10,000. 80 cents to a buck per square foot. I would recommend to you that you look into a roll out service if they offer it...you will get the job done in half the time. They roll out the long strips you pull the seams snug with an iron rake.

I'd be at 9-10k as well. Definately a low bid.

    20 pallet @ 185.00 installed = $3700.00 How many square foot on your pallets -400 or 500sq/ft ?? 185.00 divided by 400 = 0.4625 cost per sq/ft installed then it gets worse @500 sq/ft pallets.

$185.00 divided by 500 = 0.37 per square foot. I'd say that it's on the low side.
