2005 F-150 versus 2005 F-350 Chassis

    I don't understand why lawn care professionals buy dump beds for their commercial truck. The only thing I could see it being any good for would be to dump mulch on people’s driveways. Wouldn't a 05' F-150 be ideal since L.C.O.'s don't need to dump much of anything? A 05' F-150 can haul about 7-8K lb.'s and to me, a commercial truck just seems over the top. Please argue with me so I can be enlightened as to why a dump truck is more ideal than a 05' F-150.[/FONT]

    While I don't currently have a dump, I do look forward to putting a dump insert in my F250 by spring of next year. Easier unloading of mulch, gravel, etc at job sites, and faster dumping of grass, leaves, etc. at the dump. I also like the addition payload and towing capacities of the F250 over the F150.

    Your post reads to me that a new F150 has a payload capacity of 3.5 - 4 tons? You sure that is correct? Legally I can put about 3500lb in my F250, hard to believe a new F150 could handle twice that.

    I look at it the complete other way around. How you can landscape without a dump...whether it be a regular dump or insert in your pickup. Leaves, grass, rock, mulch, trees, branches, qp, etc.... I would be lost without a dump.
    Everyone has different needs though, so you just have to figure out what works best for you. If you were to get the pickup, I would at least get a 3/4 ton so you could add a dump insert later if needed and for pulling a trailer.

    I wish my flatbed was a dump. I would save time unloading hedge clippings, storm clean-up, tree clean-up, mulch, sand, dirt, etc etc! I wouldn't buy a f150 either. Diesel gas mileage is better. You can load up a dump and pull your trailer around all day. If you put any load on an f150 it will kill it. A pallet of sod in the back of an f150 will kill it. I would just get a 2002 7.3L powerstroke or a cummins diesel.

    Why wouldn't you want a 1 ton over a 1/2 ton? They can haul more, and tow much easier and last longer because less stress. You use a f-150 with a small v-8 in it then try out the 6.0 diesel and you'll never look at a f-150 again.

    If your a small company yea a f-150 would work, but i'd want at least a 3/4 ton (like i bought) because it makes life easier.

    I drove a 6-Liter F-250 this past weekend, and I can tell you, I'm sold on it. I'm gonna sell my '95 as soon as I get it back with its new cam and get this truck. The dealer let me borrow a 2004 F-250 XL 6.0L PSD/Torqshift to use for my mowing ventures around home, it performed flawlessly and pulled my equipment great. I had my foot 1/2 way down and I was runnin 80 before I even realized it. This truck has 2000 miles on it, they're asking $24,500 for it.

    24000 is pretty cheap for that. my brother in law just paid 18g for a 99 with 95000 miles.
