I’m in the market for a new used mower, I don’t put the hours on them like I used to so I don’t buy new, nor am I interested in the new price tag 😅

I have owned Exmarks most of my career, and originally that’s what I was looking at, but I keep hearing Scags have the best cut and the shop I’m buying from just had a comparable Scag become available. I’ve never tried one, so I don’t know, so thought I’d ask everyone’s opinion here. So thanks in advance!

The 2 options

2022 Exmark X-Series 60” w/37hp Vanguard EFI w/oil guard 1100 hrs
New blades, new tires, mulch kit(probably coming off), painted deck skirts, looks new
$6500

vs

2021 Scag Cheetah II w/38hp Kawasaki EFI 3000hrs on frame
Engine and hydraulics were replaced(does raise some concern about maintenance)
Engine has 1600 hrs, hydros have 1300 hrs
New front and rear tires
$6100

I haven’t used a new exmark, or a scag ever, so hope someone has an opinion that’s used both. I hear the scag cuts better, and I hear the kawi engine is better. But how about serviceability? I do all my own maintenance and repairs, machines that are poorly designed drive me crazy. And I don’t know if a frame with 3000 hours is going to create problems I’ve never encountered 🤷🏼‍♂️

I appreciate everyone’s time, going to get one or the other tomorrow 😁

Oh and I’m in central Texas, st Augustine and Bermuda is what I’m on most of the time, and the occasional pasture

I am a Kaw fan and I own that engine in my 2023 Cheetah II. I love it. However, with all that was done to the Scag you are looking at, and the hours on it vs the Exmark, I'd take the Exmark. Their decks are great in dry to very mild dew conditions, but not even close to how the Velocity will do in wet and/or adverse conditions. Both stripe very well without a stripe kit when th deck is set properly.

Maintenance on the Kaw 38 is easy, I have no experience with the VG in the Exmark, but in looking at them at the dealer here (which is a large Exmark dealer and where I buy everything except my ZTR's), it doesn't look bad to service either.

I'd go with th X unless you run it and it feels odd to you, which you should be able to tell since you have run them.
