Is there a noticible power difference between these two engines. I'm buying the 28 and I own the 26 which will be my backup. But there is no 28 to demo. Anybody who has compared them I would like opinions.

That's only about 7% more power. You would lucky to tell much of a difference but its possible. Sometimes one with the same hp will run better.

Never ran the 28. I know they're the same block, though.

We ran a 28 EFI against a 30 horse diesel, the 28 EFI didn't miss a beat against the diesel.
    Good engine in my mind.
Can't say about the 26 to 28 but the 28 will serve you well I believe.

I have 2 of each. I can tell a big difference especially in thick grass and cutting going up hills. I was surprized that 2 hp made that much difference. I have some hills that are probably 30 degrees that I mow up and down and some grass that customers water alot which gets really thick, the 26's will cut up and through ok but you can tell they start to bog down a bit, the 28's don't bog down at all, you don't hear any change they just plow right through. As "dvmcmrhp52" says they don't miss a beat

How about fuel consumption 26 EFI vs 28 EFI?
