This whole thread and I hate to pick on this because it is an all encompassing problem,.. mowing lawns is as other stated is a race to the bottom no customer wants to even be bumped for inflation.

I mean I do 57 yards right now and I do driveways to and junk removal I do a lot but I also work a full-time job but for me, I have to charge enough for it to be worth even going out and to me 25 dollars even 35 dollars really anit worth cranking up the truck

Maybe the guy is doing what Lawnsite "pros" claim they do when they say they charge double or more for biweekly in order to convince people to have it cut weekly instead.

Maybe this guy DOESN'T WANT to mow weekly? Maybe he only wants to mow every other week?

I dunno... just trying to imagine other ways to rationalize this.
We truly did always double the price for the leads that said, “what if you mow it every other week?” I would also explain that because the lawn will grow more in two weeks of time than it does in one week of time, after two weeks it takes more time for us to properly maintenance the lawn; thus making it more expensive.

This usually led to the leads looking elsewhere, BUT we weren’t looking for EOW clients. It worked for us!

yeah most of my yards are based for two weeks so im use to it but I've never heard of two weeks being cheaper than a weekly that was more confusing to me then anything

I looked up his company and it seems like he came from a handyman service to lawn care so I have no idea but the pricing thing got me plus one free gutter cleaning a year seems like his leaving out a lot of money. which maybe its the first year's prices than the next he jumps up 50%. maybe it's like a dish network promotion.

If the lawn isn't large and the guy has several other neighbors he could actually be doing it and earning a decent profit. The more people in close proximity the lower rate one can offer up to a point. No drive time and he would benefit from the economy of scale.

We offer 29 bucks a weekly cut to folks in one townhouse development. It sounds like a comically low number but we make good money off it because we have 20 of them and do not need to hop off the mower to service all 20 of them, only takes about 4-5 labor hours total.

i got a text the other day that someone had come up and offered to mow their yard for 50 dollars every week or 35 dollars every two weeks and asked if I could beat that price. I told them no because first of all that price doesn't make sense to me and more so I'm not price matching or lowering prices ill just replace the yard because how in the hell do you charge more for weekly then biweekly. also 35 dollars anit really gonna cover the cost of fuel in my mower or truck. looked up the guy his using a lowes john deere mower so i don't know how those are but if its like my hustler then his gonna have issues with that grass
Easiest way to deal with this is politely say you cant match that but if they need anything in the future to keep your number.

there has always, and will always, be guys like this. Best thing to do is only worry about your company and the work you do.

I’ll add ,.. usually, loss leaders have huge bankrolls that the entire purpose they can under charge you out of existence for years and years until you capitulate. I doubt this is the strategy here just saying.
As such, the margins on mowing suck.
There have been LCO's that sell-off all their mowing accounts and just focus on landscaping and/or spraying....

Be careful. I said the exact same thing a couple weeks ago and damn near got burned at the stake for it.

Mr. 35-Dolla Lawns?? A "broke-to-billionaire" entrepreneurial type storyteller that was on here about 10 years back under about 3 different names.
He was called out by several people catching him telling outright lies with his b.s. including photoshopped pictures, plus his wife "ghost writing" some of his posts. [You'll see the "back & forth" that he got onto with some other L.S members.]
His "These are the Days on Our Lawns" threads, (there were a couple of them) were some of his most epic tall tales!
The title of this thread immediately reminded me of him.
His other thread was a hoot, as it really went off the rails the last few pages....🤬
