actual website vs. facebook page

    Just curious what your thoughts on this subject was. I know facebook might not be the most professional way, but its free, easy to use, and many people have a page. A real website has more costs, and might not be a sure way to pick up business.

    Any thoughts?

    Why not both, just remember, facebook is growing; but still alot of teens and college kids are on there so remember who you're tageting.

    I used godaddy for my website. I think initial start up I might have been out 30 bucks and I only pay 8.99 per month. It has never been down or unavailable that I know of. The pics are a little slow to load sometimes but for the price I cant complain. I get enough business through the website to pay for itself easily. Might be hard to be taken very seriously by someone considering you for a commercial account if you only have a facebook page. My 0.02.

    Do both. The maintenance on a website is very low considering the exposure it brings.
    Here is a company that using both and does a very good job.

    If the average landscape has a significant number of customers following you on Facebook, I'd be surprised.

    In my business, if my following or leads were coming from Facebook, I'd probably be in a world of hurt image-wise and income-wise.

    Unless I sold Axe or Old Spice deodorant or something


    Looking at Facebook for commerce really seems like a last ditch effort, scraping the bottom of the barrel.

    I noticed that Davey Tree has a facebook page.

    That's almost the biggest tree company or franchise in the USA or worldwide, and its only got like 1000 facebook friends. That's pretty slim pickins. When you break-down that 1000 into who is already a customer, or how many of them are employees supporting Davey online, and how many are "just" friends, it seems like a big waste of time for whoever is messing with their website for them.

    A website is really the streamlined way to go.

    A blog along with a wbsite is also fairly professional.

    You kind of have to step back and set goals for what you would want an on-line presence to provide for your business. For most people, they will want to inform prospects about their business and be found in search engines. You probably won't have much luck getting search engines to find facebook pages unless someone searches for your company name. What you're really going to want is people to find your page when searching for "your service in your town".

    As someone metioned earlier you can host/build a site through godaddy. There are also services like http://www.squarespace.com/ that make building a site a bit easier (godaddy can be a bit of a pain). There's nothing to prevent you from doing both, but if I were going to do only one, it would be a web site.
