For someone new to the area and new to the business what kind of advertising has given you the best results? ie. newpaper, flyer, local add channel, etc.

#1 word of mouth referrals (friends/neighbors)
#2 flyers left at the location
    #3 coupon books
    #4 newspapers
    #5 phonebook

    In that order.

I would have to say flyers are one of the best ways to go for just starting out.

You can concentrate on certain areas/subdivisions, this will usually lead to clusters of accounts.

After you get established you will begin to get referral business from existing customers. A lot of times after you start cutting for someone and their neighbour will come ask you to do theirs.

Telephone books can get you calls from all over. One of my friends keeps a map of where I have yards since he gets calls from all over and not necessarily on his route.

I have my logo on one of my trucks and my trailer, but have only had a few people call from just seeing the name. But everyone in my neighbourhood know who I am.
