Tis NOT the season to aerate around here. Unless the turf is irrigated that is.

It is better to wait and aerate when the daytime temps are in the 60s. That gives cool season grasses a better chance to recover from the stress of aeration. I feel your pain on the lack of rain. It has turned dry here also in the last month

Dry as a bone here in Charlotte as well. I've already aerated and seeded a few lawns because the people insisted but they have irrigation so I still got 3 inch plugs. Its hard to tell people to wait because they just know their neighbor had it done and they want theirs done as well at the same time.

I've been trying to get people to hold off for a few more weeks but they don't want to listen. This weeks forecast is for highs around 89. Next week is looking better though.

I may not be able to aerate the non-irrigated lawns at all this Fall,,, unless we get enough rain to bring the grass back to life and there is enough moisture deep enough in the soil for the roots to growth and use the fertilizer... It seems that the turf hasn't used the fertilizer put down in August and I was hoping to winterize in early Oct at the latest... Aeration is a total non-issue right now,,, in the sense that: "Of what possible value could it have under these conditions???"
